Indiana University Bloomingon (Biology, Chemistry)
Calumet College of St. Joseph (Master's)
I am a compassionate and rigorous high school biology teacher. I have been teaching full-time and tutoring part-time for five years. I obtained my BS in biology and chemistry from Indiana University in 2010, and my master's in teaching from Calumet College of St. Joseph in 2014. I have two years of experience working as a molecular biology research technician at Rush University in Chicago.
I have assisted in improving my high school students' math grades through after-school tutoring with algebra, prealgebra, and precalculus. In the summer of 2016, I attended a high-quality professional development workshop that specializes in training teachers in algebraic conceptual readiness for struggling students.
In addition to my four years of biology teaching experience, I also have two years of experience working in molecular biology research. I have an in-depth understanding of Indiana's biology standards as well as the practical applications of biology. On my teacher-qualifying PRAXIS exam, I obtained an award for scoring above the top fifteenth percentile of the nation for the biology exam.
Please message me to ask questions and schedule tutoring sessions. I am available to meet students at local libraries or at their preferred location. Neerja is tutoring my child in math. After one 30 minute session with Neerja, my child got an A on her math test! That alone should tell you the teaching powers Neerja possesses. Now she is getting weekly tutoring sessions and her level of confidence in math has soared! The amount of time it takes for her to do her math homework has significantly decreased. We are extremely pleased with Neerja and are planning on incorporating biology into the tutoring sessions. I would highly recommend Neerja to family and friends.
This is our first lesson with Neerja but my son loved her. He said she was very patient and could understand the way she explained things. We will be going back!
Neerja really made my son a lot more confident,, she explained in a very simple manner that my son could understand thus getting him ready for his test on the following day, highly recommended.
Neerja made my daughter feel much more confident in the current material. She explained it in a way that she understood. My daughter didn't want to go to tutoring before this session and now she has agreed to go back. The test is today and hopefully she does better.
This was my son's first session and he was very pleased and comfortable. I am confident that Neerja will get him where he needs to be. Patient and knowledgable.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to being a licensed high school educator, I have been tutoring math for the last five years. As a direct result of my math instruction, my students show a dramatic improvement on their math test scores and are able to confidently communicate back to me effective strategies for solving math problems.
I am a high school biology teacher with five years of teaching experience, two years of molecular biology research experience, and a national PRAXIS biology ranking above the top fifteenth percentile. I have two bachelors degrees (biology and chemistry) and a masters in teaching.
In addition to being a licensed high school educator with training in science literacy, I obtained a score of 760 on the SAT reading portion when I took the exam in 2004.
