Math and science were my favorite subjects throughout my formal schooling and I can help any student improve their knowledge in these courses by helping them enjoy the subjects rather than be intimidated by them.

What are my credentials? I have a BS and MS in Aeronautical Engineering and an MS in Mechanical Engineering and as a result I've taken many courses in math and science, the basis of engineering.

How long have I been tutoring? I have tutored for over 30 years, at the start finding students in a "word of mouth" manner from friends of the family, work associates and others. While in graduate school at Notre Dame I worked for the athletic department as a tutor for their engineering student-athletes. In addition to tutoring, I have taught several engineering courses at the college level and for the past 15 years I have coached youth baseball, which is a different sort of teaching from the classroom, but still involves guiding young people with a goal of improving themselves.

How will I help, will I do your homework? Doing your homework for you does you no good in the long run. I will guide you through your homework using examples that are similar to your homework in order to reinforce the concepts your instructor is trying to teach. Along the way, I will ask you questions as a way of testing your understanding. These tactics will help you when examination time comes as you will have seen many more examples of relevant questions giving you a broader base of knowledge and more confidence in attacking new problems. I can also create practice exams for you to work under test conditions in order for you to improve your test taking skills.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and can improve your knowledge of math or science, improve your test taking skills and improve your confidence so you can take on more and more challenging subjects with ease.

MATLAB

MATLAB

As an engineer it is natural to use tools such as MATLAB to solve numerical problems. I use it daily when tutoring for quick calculations of anything from simple number crunching to matrices/linear algebra solutions. I also use MATLAB to write scripts to solve more complicated problems that need more than a few command line calculations.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra is often the first math course a student takes that they exclaim "I just don't get it". Algebra involves nothing new mathematically, just adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. It is essentially a method of logical steps to find an answer. It CAN be a fun course. It CAN be very useful in everyday life, not just for the math aspect, but for learning how to think through problems in a logical way.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

As with Algebra 1, I can help you get a better grasp of the concepts of Algebra 2, leading to understanding instead of confusion. We will start with simple problems that you can relate to and as you gain confidence in your abilities, move on to more and more complicated problems.
Calculus,

Calculus

Mastery of calculus opens the door to many fields such as science, engineering, business and medicine. My engineering background gives me a deep understanding of calculus and how it is used to solve real world problems, some of which can be solved exactly while others require the use of a computer to estimate a solution. I have extensive experience with both techniques and can help you on your path to better understanding of calculus.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is often one of the first courses a high school student takes that involves the use of logic and proofs and can be intimidating at first. Geometry builds from the simple to more complex proofs to solve more and more difficult problems. If you are struggling to understand the basics or the more complex problems, I am confident that we can work together to boost your understanding and your grades!
Physics,

Physics

Physics is at the core of science and engineering. If you need help with high school or college level physics, you've come to the right place. My 30+ years of experience solving physics problems will get you headed in the right direction.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

The more math subjects you master, the more job opportunities you will be able to handle. I can help you master any level of math. If you are having difficulties with your Prealgebra course work, it is never too soon to get the help you need to excel.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I can help you master the skills to be successful in your Precalculus course. My engineering background gives me a deep understanding of all math subjects, but especially calculus and precalculus courses. If you intend to move on from precalculus to calculus, I can continue tutoring you as you move up the math food chain!
SAT Math

SAT Math

Preparing for the SAT math test involves covering several subjects within the field of mathematics. I can tutor you at any level of math from Pre-algebra to Calculus. If you need to brush up on math skills that you may not have used recently or introduce you to subjects that you have not taken, I can work with you to maximize your score on the math portion of your SAT.

Finite Math,

Finite Math

Finite mathematics covers general set/counting theory, probability, statistics, decision making, game theory and logic. A wide subject knowledge is needed. These are all topics that I am very familiar with due to my many math and engineering courses taken as an undergraduate and graduate student. Courses taken include math up to Differential Equations, Logic, Probability and Statistics, Macro Economics.

Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have taken many hours of math coursework at the undergraduate and graduate level while studying engineering. Linear Algebra was one of the required courses for completing an undergraduate degree. After learning the theory behind linear algebra, I used the knowledge to solve engineering problems, using both manual and computational techniques, in several other courses such as dynamical systems, vibrations, systems control and computer graphics.

Mechanical Engineering,

Mechanical Engineering

I have a BS and MS in Aeronautical Engineering and an MS in Mechanical Engineering (PhD ABD). I have taught and tutored at the college level while working on my graduate degrees in both Aeronautical and Mechanical engineering. Courses taught include Statics, Thermodynamics, and Wind Tunnel Testing Methods. In the past I have tutored engineering courses such as Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics and MATLAB techniques.

Pleased Parent

In two sessions, George has made an immediate positive impact in my daughter's confidence and command of the material covered. George demonstrates patience and provides effective approaches to problem solving. George also provides a recap of what was covered as a reference tool. He is a great tutor we would strongly recommend

Physics College Assistance

George is great in helping me understand the foundarions, and also going a little further to make sure not only understanding is met, but comprehensive thinking into further analysis of the problem is done. I am growing more confident with physics everytime, lessons are well worth my time.
