There are many ways to improve oneself. None is quite like the power you get from educating yourself on how to better perform. As America moves forward, jobs are requiring more technical knowledge and expertise. And yet at the same time, the education system is bogged down and many students aren’t able to receive the individual attention that is really required to help them flourish. I can help you by providing that individual attention and modeling that is so necessary.

As a mathematics and physics double major in my senior year, my peers and superiors are continually surprised by my passion and knowledge on these two subjects. They are what I want to devote my life to studying. That passion is one of the essential qualities that I bring as a tutor. But knowledge and passion, while vital, are not the only things that one must possess to be a good tutor; one must also be able to expertly communicate the ideas and knowledge to the student. Over the last few years, my experience with communications training has been sharpened and honed through leadership positions at various summer camps, a successful high school speech and debate career, martial arts instructing, and tutoring my peers in their subjects to help them improve.

My general structure for tutoring is to first review the student’s current standing in the subject, usually through previous tests, and then to have them preform some problem solving in the subject to further ascertain the student’s level of skill. Having done that, a curriculum is then developed from that information. This will be a plan that will coach the student to greater success through multiple rounds of problem solving and personal feedback, building their confidence and proficiency.

Public Speaking

The last half of my high school career was dedicated to public speaking by competing in the speech and debate organization NCFCA and made it to national finals in both years I could participate. In college, I gained the office of vice president of the local SPS group, where I had to run a segment updating the group on the local workings. I've also coached numerous groups on public speaking skills, at the request of various local groups who run public speaking camps.

Computer

General Computer

General Computer

My computer skills come from being raised in the computer age and tinkering around with them since before I can remember. I've torn apart and put together more laptops and desktops then I can remember, and spent a large amount of time figuring out and studying how to troubleshoot and personalize them. I've taught how to work and understand computers to those who are less experienced with them for several years.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have been working with algebra for over a decade. My line of study as a physics major requires an active understanding of all the rules and formulas contained in this subject. Each problem requires multiple steps of algebra to complete. I taught this subject to many students and they all improve drastically with my assistance.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I actively use the techniques found in algebra 2 and college algebra everyday. After taking and acing those classes, I haven't stopped using them. Be it working on research or going through graduate classes, I have to use the skills gained from those two classes perfectly all the time.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus has literally been my life for the last several years, from the initial calculus series to vector calculus to its extreme application in the half dozen upper level physics courses in my degree all the way through to my current academic research on quantum liquids and of course teaching it through Wyzant. My understanding of calculus developed through taking courses, working with the subject in real world settings and developing analogies to properly explain to students what calculus is actually trying to say.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

The basis of chemistry rests on algebra and dimensional analysis. These are both subjects that I have had to master in order to advance in my work studying physics. I have taught chemistry for the last few years using this knowledge.
Physics,

Physics

I am a physics major at the University of South Florida. I have taken and passed with high marks the general physics courses as well as a significant portion of the upper level physics course. I also have a relatively large amount of experience tutoring in this subject, tutoring students to higher marks than they expected.
Geometry, Prealgebra, Precalculus, SAT Math

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

The ACT covers the essentials of functions based algebra, some coordinate and plane geometry, and trigonometry. These subjects are all ones that serve as the foundation of physics and mathematics. I have been practicing these skills for years, since every problem in every class in my academic career uses the formulas and rules taught in the subjects covered in the ACT. I have been teaching these subjects for just as long.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I took a class that focused specifically on ordinary differential equations, as well as a math methods course that included differential equations, both ordinary and partial, in its subject material. In both classes I received A's. I am well versed in all the techniques for solving first order equations, as well as the method of undetermined coefficients and Laplace transformations for 2nd order and higher equations.
Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

I have taken some classes on the subject and excelled. I have a course in combinatorics and graph theory under my belt as well as having to use the techniques included in those class for my research projects at USF. I was among the top 3 students in each of those classes.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

I have taken a number of course on the subject of finite math. I have two classes of abstract algebra under my belt, with focuses on finite groups and fields. I was the top student in both of those classes.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I took a class focusing on this subject in the Spring of 2012. I also took a Math Methods course which covered linear algebra as an important topic. During the courses, I was among the top three in the class in grade performance and I finished the class with an A. Also, while in the class, I helped tutor peers in that class on how to do linear algebra.
Logic,

Logic

As a mathematician, the ideas of logic are what I use nearly every day while working in upper level proof based classes. I have recently completed a class on it and begun tutoring some students in it already. Those students have seen a remarkable increase in their grades in the class.

Excellent tutor!

My daughter came home after meeting with Ben feeling much more confident with her Algebra II. He guided her through her lessons, ensuring she understood the material before moving on. She is eager to meet with him again this week!

Great Tutor, Very Smart, Convenient Availability

Ben is a great tutor. He explains things very clearly and breaks steps down into easy to understand parts. His availability is incredible and very appreciated by my son. Ben is incredible and making a difference in my son's first year of college. Thank you Ben!

Great Tutor

Ben is a great tutor as he is patient and very knowledgeable. His online sessions are productive and he tests your knowledge, at times, to really see if you understand the material. I would highly recommend Ben, especially for physics.

Able to explain from multiple angles until you get it

Ben is a great tutor specifically because he is able to explain things in more that one way (and in more than 5 ways) if you don't understand initially. It's one thing to be able to do that for simple algebra. It's quite another to be able to do that for quantum mechanics, vector notation, linear algebra, etc. He is also a gentleman, and a bit of a sci-fi nerd, which is an enjoyable and charming bonus.

Best physics tutor!

Not only did I pass physics 2, I aced it. Ben made sure I understood every question fully, the math and the concepts behind it. Very patient and most helpful tutor I've had.

Awesome Tutor!

Ben provided an excellent before-exam review for my daughter's college Intro to Chemistry Class. She made a 98! He reviewed with her all the relevant items that her professor suggested to cover before the exam. Ben helped her specifically with topics that she was having a hard time understanding. We cannot thank Ben enough. He is very professional and passionate about his subjects!

Great tutor for 8th grader in honors math

Ben tutored my son for two evenings prior to a cumulative review test. My son had been struggling to maintain a B all quarter and had even failed a quiz. Ben basically reviewed 9 weeks of math with my son in 4 hours. He got a 92 on his test. He put my son at ease and is very calm. I would highly recommend Ben as a math tutor.
