I am a seminary student studying toward my Master of Divinity. Currently, I have a Master of Ministry and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies. My undergraduate work was in Music and Psychology with an emphasis in Music Therapy. Life long learning is very important to me. I have tutored off and on since 1982. My teaching style is whatever it takes for the student to learn the material and feel comfortable with the knowledge that they have gained. Learning needs to be fun, but there are also times when one must drill and memorize.
My hobbies are music, reading, playing with my dogs, spending time with my nieces and nephew, travel, and teaching people with special needs. I have worked with individuals along every part of the autism spectrum and truly enjoy spending time with them.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelor of Science in Music with an emphasis in Music Therapy. Between the time I received my B.S. and receiving my Masters in Ministry and then a Master of Arts in Theological Studies, I worked in the field of developmental disabilities/human services in several positions, worked for two different school systems as a substitute teacher for elementary schools and then as a program assistant for special need students, and my favorite vocation, a Director of Children's Ministries for a large church. I am now completing seminary and truly enjoy life long learning opportunities. What I found out through all of this is I love teaching. What I love best is when a student gets it! I have taught every grade level of elementary student as well as all subjects. I have found the more challenging it is for the student, the more I enjoy working with the student to find a way for them to understand their school work and succeed. I especially enjoy teaching reading and have learned several different methods of teaching so that students who find reading a challenge can learn to read and enjoy it. Elementary math is fun and also foundational to everything in the upper grades so it has to be firm before junior high for students to be successful. Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Languages, English, all of your other subjects hinge on reading and math proficiency.

Special Needs

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I teach social skills for children and young adults with autism through a center in South Bend, Indiana. I have worked as a program assist for the public schools assisting students with autism and other developmentally disabilities. I am a qualified mental retardation professional (QMRP) and case manager for people with special needs.

Special Needs

I have worked with individuals with special needs in a variety of settings, from group homes, to workshops, to school settings(K-12), to religious nurture opportunities, and in their own home. The most consistent thing that I have done is to teach new skills or help improve current skills. The best part of this is the ability to be creative in the teaching process and model life long learning. For young people with special needs I believe in making sure that they have the skills necessary to be good citizens as well as skills that help them have hobbies and life long learning abilities. Setting people up for success and being the best person that they can be is very important to me. I am a legal guardian for two individuals with special needs and truly enjoy helping them have a purpose and live a well balanced life that they enjoy. Education is a foundational part of this process.
