About George

I have a B.S. degree from Indiana State University in Elementary Education. I have over 7 years experience tutoring and assessing students' skills. I have acquired nearly 10 years of recent experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; including grades K-12 as well as at-risk and special needs students. I was a Lead Tutor under the No Child Left Behind Program.

My education includes 18 credit hours of college mathematics and 12 hours English/Reading and Language Arts. Math includes Pre-Algebra, geometry, Algebra1 and basic/elementary math. It is vitally important that students get the basic understanding of the principles and the steps for the processes of math in the elementary grades or they will have problems in the future.

I recently completed scoring Indiana ISTEP exams; the math component. I discovered many students are struggling with math and it is best to make the investment in their learning early rather than later. You should look on this as an opportunity to invest in their futures.

The same applies for reading/comprehension and language arts. Studies have proven, and support, that students that do not develop basic reading skills by the third grade have problems in the classroom in all subjects. I have also qualified to instruct grammar and spelling.

I typically conduct a pre-assessment/testing to determine your/students skill(s) level. This enables me to plan the best course of action to effect change, and success for the student.

I enjoy working with students, watching them learn/grow and feel I would be an asset to your child's/student's learning and growth. I am semi-retired and can afford to lower my rates if the family needs this support to get their student the help they need.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I want you to feel that this is an opportunity to invest your child's future. I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student succeed in learning, and studies.

I enjoy working with young people and watching them grow and develop. My favorite subjects are math and reading.

My second favorite interest is golf. I am a long-time sports fanatic, and turned to golf in the last few years. I played sports in high school and college, and have been a Cubs and White Sox fan, Bears and Colts fan for years.

I shoot in the 80's and have taught golf to beginners and intermediates. Most golfers are struggling to break 100, and this is well within reach once you understand the swing. I also coach golf when the weather permits, and have experienced good results from my students of all ages.

I, also, have over 20 years experience in preparing and submitting grants. I have composed grant applications for training grants for private businesses; community and economic development for municipalities; worked with churches and local agencies; and prepared/writing grants for job creation and retaining local jobs.

Please contact me if your agency, church, business and/or municipality needs assistance with grant writing, reporting, monitoring, budgeting and building/creating relations with rewarding agencies.

Thank you for your consideration.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
