I have over twenty-five years of education experience in a wide variety of studies. I primarily teach music, including private lessons on guitar, piano, bass, and theory. I have worked extensively in the public school system as a Science Program Presenter at a local planetarium and also as a substitute teacher and long-term substitute teacher.
I also have four years of experience as a private home school teacher working with teenagers. Additionally, I have taught technical skills such as computer operation, computer software, and audio and video operation and education.
The variety of programs I have taught include early-education music and movement studies, private and classroom music programs for all ages through adult, science programs, and general elementary and secondary studies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught music professionally for almost twenty-five years. I majored in Improvisational Performance (Jazz studies) with a Minor in Education. I have taught private and classroom programs in the public schools, privately, through non-profit organizations, and through adult-education programs.
I have taught private piano lessons for almost twenty-five years. During this time, I have been involved with or been a member of the American College of Musicians / National Guild of Piano Teachers and the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
I have developed programs for early beginners starting at age five, early and intermediate classical performance studies, jazz improvisational programs, and also programs for adult learners.
I majored in improvisational performance (including jazz piano) and had a minor in the Master of Arts Education program at Columbia College in Chicago. While attending Columbia College, I was principal bassist for the inaugural vocal/instrumental performance ensemble and also appeared on the Dean's list for academic achievement.
As a word of note, a former student of mine (Pete Remm) is currently touring and performing as the back up keyboardist for Grammy Award winning artist Norah Jones.
