About Amanda

Natural teacher at heart! With a master's in Special Education, I have the training to teach all subjects in K-12 with a strength in math and sciences. I have over 5 years of working with students with various disabilities, and this background gave me the ability to provide appropriate accommodations whenever necessary.

I also have the ability to teach math with various methods that best suits the learner. I can differentiate the content and ensure that the learner will grasp the material.

I am fluent in American Sign Language and can work with people with hearing loss. I have taught ASL in various settings and can work with students that are Deaf and/or hard of hearing or non-verbal.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have a Master's Degree from Indiana University Northwest in Special Education. I have the appropriate training to accommodate anyone with ADD/ADHD. I have over 5 years of experience of working in special education and it has allowed me to be more sensitive and aware of other's needs.

Additionally, I have worked directly with students with ADD/ADHD and provided appropriate accommodations for them to succeed.

Algebra 1

I have a Master's Degree in Special Education (2015) from Indiana University Northwest. I also have 4 years of experience as a paraprofessional in a high school setting where I was helping students with basic algebra skills.

I also have experience tutoring students in Algebra, and I have the ability to differentiate the instruction so it best fits the students' learning styles.

Anthropology

I have a bachelor of science degree in Anthropological Sciences from The Ohio State University (2010). During my undergraduate years, I participated in various field classes to gain exposure to different real-life practical archaeological techniques, including surveying, excavating, and cataloging. The curriculum of the anthropology department at Ohio State provided very intensive, yet expansive, classes to cover all of the topics within the field of anthropology (i.e. linguistics, cultural anthropology, paleontology, archaeology, etc.).

Autism

I have over 5 years of experience of working with students diagnosed on the Autism spectrum. I have worked with all ages, ranging from preschool to adult ages. I have also worked with people diagnosed with Autism in multiple settings, including academic, vocational, and recreational settings.

I have the ability to be sensitive and understanding of one's needs, especially in providing positive behavior support to foster education. I have a Master's degree in Special Education (2015) from Indiana University Northwest.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's degree in Special Education from Indiana University (2015) and that allowed me to be able to educate students from kindergarten to 12th grade. I have the ability to differentiate instruction according to the student's needs and learning style(s).

I also have 5 years' experience as a paraprofessional in an academic, vocational, and recreational settings.

The undergraduate program allowed me to explore all of the subfields within geological sciences, such as mineralogy, paleontology, oceanography, environmental geology, natural disasters, physical geology, water resources, and so on. I also have lavatory experience identifying minerals using their physical properties and working with fossil specimens.

Hard Of Hearing

I have worked for over 5 years with students with various forms of hearing loss. I have the education to modify content for students with hearing loss.

I used to teach and tutor ASL in various settings (classroom, groups, and one-on-one).

Sign Language

I am Deaf myself and fluent in American Sign Language. I have used ASL my whole life.
