About Jennifer

I am truly a lifelong learner who loves to share my excitement and gifts with others. I've been a licensed and nationally certified speech language pathologist for 18 years. For 17 years, I have served my community through my private practice that I continue to run. Throughout the years I have provided therapy, tutoring and coaching to hundreds of students. I have a special love of teaching others tips, tricks, tools and systems that make studying and life easier! Because of this, I have designed courses and tools that have helped many students reach their academic and life goals. My own two children have become very successful students {high school and college} using my systems.

In addition to my extensive years of experience and knowledge, I am certified in The Reading with TLC Program {a multi-sensory reading enrichment and remediation program} This program has quickly helped countless students who struggle with reading, in as little as 3 months time!

I have a special passion in working with those students who want to become better students. Focusing on executive functioning skills {those skills that help us organize and learn} like time management, organization, attention and goal setting are the KEY. I enjoy helping students see the BIG PICTURE by teaching skills that they can apply to any setting.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your goals!

I am available most days of the week either online using the Wyzant online system or in one of my local offices in Elkhart, Mishawaka or Valparaiso {Indiana}.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

As a speech language pathologist I have extensive knowledge of the brain and it's executive functioning {that which is disordered in ADHD}. I have gained valuable experiences working with individuals who have difficulties with executive functioning skills of: sustained attention, task initiation, emotional regulation and metacognition skills. In addition, working as an SLP for almost 18 years has awarded me the opportunity to serve many, many students who have co-morbid conditions such as language processing disorders and ADHD.

Aspergers

As a speech language pathologist I have extensive knowledge of the brain development of those on the Autism Spectrum. Working as an SLP for almost 18 years has awarded me the opportunity to serve many, many students starting as early as age 2 who are challenged with the language, cognitive and social difficulties associated with Asperger's. In addition, through my work as an Academic Coach I have honed my techniques to address common issues like: completing homework, mastering long term projects and talking with teachers that individuals with Asperger's often have difficulty with.

Dyslexia

I have been a speech language pathologist for 18 years and have served many students with Dyslexia. I also have taken many continuing education credits on this subject and am certified in the Reading with TLC approach which is approved for Dyslexia treatment.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have both a teaching license and a speech language pathology license. In addition to substitute teaching in k-12 while in undergraduate and graduate school, I have worked in K-12 settings as a speech language pathologist. My licensure as a speech language pathologist also affords me to work with students who struggle with learning disability, dyslexia and many other learning challenges. My additional coursework in cognition and executive functioning allow me to assist any student with the process of learning any subject. I also have certification the reading program Reading with TLC.

Phonics

I have been a licensed speech language pathologist for 18 years. As such, I am by trade an expert with communication {public speaking} as well as vocabulary and phonics. In addition to my education and years of experience, I am certified in the Reading with TLC program.

Public Speaking

I am a fully licensed and nationally certified speech language pathologist. As such, I am an expert in all things communication {both disorderd and typical} including public speaking.

Study Skills

As a licensed and nationally certified speech language pathologist I am, by trade, expertly qualified to teach others HOW to learn {disordered or non disordered}. Through my 18 years of experience in the clinical field as well as my education, I have extensive knowledge of the brain and how it learns information. I have also designed many systems and tools to help students in my private practice that I have successfully run for 18 years. In addition, I have taken many continuing education classes in the area of executive functioning and how we learn.
