About Jordan

Hello All!

My name is Jordan, and I am here to help you with any trouble you may be having with your school work!

I went to Ball State University, and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, with a focus on English as a Second Language and Spanish. I traveled to Germany to complete my student teaching on the American Air Force Base in Ramstein, Germany, and I consider it a life experience that strengthened my abilities as a teacher in many ways! I am certified to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade, and I currently hold a position as a 6th grade Language Arts teacher.

My tutoring experience has grown significantly over this past year, as I have students stay after school nearly 3 times per week to get help with homework, or studying. What I enjoy about working with students one-on-one is that there is a perfect concentration on helping the individual student, and I can better meet his/her needs.

I am available most weekdays at about 4 pm - 9 pm Central time. I am also available on Saturdays from 7 am - 9 pm, and Sundays from 12 pm - 5 pm.

Overall, in teaching, I have discovered that it is a truly rewarding profession, and I enjoy seeing students become self-sufficient, and independent in their own learning! I hope to pass on that same satisfaction to you!

I have grown up learning Spanish my whole life. My dad teaches Spanish at the high school and college level, and I have been around it, and have listened to it for many years. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, and went on to take 3 years of classes at the college level as well. In doing so, I have a Spanish minor with my degree in Elementary Education.

Currently, I teach 6th grade Language Arts. I focus on the 6+1 Writing Traits (Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Voice, Ideas, Organization, and Conventions). This means, when I have a student write, I want to make sure he/she is developing these aspects of the writing process, in order to make the piece of writing strong overall. Additionally, I focus on reading comprehension with my students, asking different levels of questions that challenge them. I ask them to recall information from the text. I ask them to make inferences and predictions about what may happen next in a story. We focus on text features, especially in non-fiction text, as well. I also focus on building my students' vocabularies. I prompt them to use the words we learn in the classroom, in everyday conversations.

I am qualified to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade. As I mentioned, I teach 6th grade Language Arts, currently. While I was student teaching, I taught in a 2nd grade classroom. I have had training and classes in interpreting curriculum and standards for a given grade level in that range of K-6. I have written lesson plans that correspond with these different grade levels as well - not just 2nd and 6th.

I truly hope you will consider me as a possible tutor. I do believe I will meet your expectations, and I hope to help you achieve your goals! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you'd like to set up a time to meet. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified by the state of Indiana to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade general education.
