About Jasmin

I went to Ball State to study special education with a specialty in mild disabilities and Deaf Education. I taught special Ed for preschool, kindergarten, 1st, and second grade. In my 3 years teaching experience, I have learned so much and have only wanted to continue finding alternate routes to learn for all students. Disabilities aren't limitations, just a way to tell us we need to find a different way to access knowledge.

My first tutoring experience was when I was 13. Crazy right? It was my brother; but before you think, "that doesn't count," I had full worksheets I created by hand and I made him do work over and over until he saw what he was capable of. He cried and said "I'll never be able to read" and became the best reader in his class.

Aside from my brother, I tutored students after school when I taught special Ed and it was very rewarding to use extra time to review what he was learning in class at a slower speed with dancing and singing. Yes we sing and dance. Love what you're reading? Let's learn.

I love making sense of the English language. There are so many rules and terms and it can be difficult but I enjoy it. Fun fact: when my friends would pass notes in 6th grade, I'd always get out my red pen and edit the notes with correct grammar and punctuation for fun. Well fun for me.

I feel confident teaching basic signs similar to what is taught in ASL 1 and 2. I have volunteered with small interpreting gigs and I've used sign language at an elementary level.

If students need a refresher or review or you're learning for the first time, feel free to contact me to schedule a lesson.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

While my degree is in special education, I have had much experience in elementary education as well. My student teaching and practicums were in elementary classrooms and much of my special education lessons and co-teaching took place in the elementary classroom. The common core standards and goals used in my teaching were from the elementary curriculum.

Handwriting

Handwriting was a part of our curriculum when I taught special ed with kg, 1st, and 2nd grade students. I use fun, kid-friendly. terms to help student remember where letters are placed on the lines.

Hard Of Hearing

My degree was in Deaf Education and my experiences working with students who were Deaf and hard of hearing supports my qualifications for deaf and hard of hearing.

Phonics

During my 2 1/2 years of teaching special ed in kdg, 1st, and 2nd, phonics was an important part of our reading, and language and comprehension block. We used manipulatives such as chips, our hands, body and songs for a hands on experience to better understand sounds and blending. I went to Ball State to study special education with a specialty in mild disabilities and Deaf Education.

Sign Language

I believe I am qualified to tutor sign language for pre-k to 2nd grade based on my experiences and education. My experience from sign language college courses, my position as a Deaf camp counselor with elementary students, and working as in interpreter in a preschool, gives me confidence with early conversation skills for younger children.

Special Needs

My degree is in Deaf education and mild disabilities. I have taught for 2 1/2 years in special ed in pre k, 1, and 2nd. I currently hold my professional signal teaching license in both mild disabilities and Deaf education. Special education was always a passion of mine and it is rewarding to see students find different routes to access knowledge and education that meets their needs.
