About Stacey

Over the last six years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to tutor many students from both the college and high school levels in French. I enjoy working with students one-on-one and do so frequently in my work as an instructor of French at a university. I am currently teaching French classes at the local university. My favorite part of teaching is seeing a student begin to master the concept they are trying to learn and succeed in their studies. Teaching for me is being able to take a difficult concept and break it down to make it attainable and understandable for a student.

One comes to understand one's own language more extensively after studying and teaching another language. As a result, I have a strong understanding and command of English grammar and have been asked by friends and fellow graduate students to proofread papers and scripts. In the endeavor to help my students understand French grammar, I frequently have to explain English grammar as well.

I hold a B.A. in French, an M.A. in Romance Languages with a concentration in French Language and Literature both from Texas Tech University. I hold an M.A. in French Linguistics from Purdue University and am currently working on my Ph.D. in French Linguistics. I hold a LOTE-French teaching certificate from the Texas State Board of Education to teach EC-12 French.

Additionally, I am freshly back from teaching English for a year at Université Grenoble-Alpes in Grenoble, France. I enjoy adding what I learned after a year in France to my lessons particularly in helping students know some structures that are used frequently by the French currently.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

French

I hold both a B.A. and an M.A. in French from Texas Tech University. I wanted to continue straight into the PhD program for French Linguistics at the time, but since my Master's from Texas Tech was literature focused, I was asked to first complete another M.A. this time in French Linguistics. I finished that, then spent a year teaching in Grenoble, France. I've recently returned from there and am working on my PhD in French Linguistics with a concentration in Second Language Acquisition. I also hold a LOTE-French EC-12 Teaching Certificate from the Texas Board of Education.
