I believe you will find me a dedicated, hard-working, flexible and nurturing educator who is well qualified to provide the motivation and direction that students, whether adolescents or adults, need to learn. I taught high school (and some middle school) science for 15 years. But now here I am at Purdue, pursuing my PhD in Geoscience Education. Its funny where your life takes you!
My teaching style was direct and decisive, yet flexible to respond to the ever-changing demands of the student population. Creativity and variety were my hallmark and I feel they were excellent strategies to help grab and hold a student’s attention for increased participation and performance. I fostered an engaging, relaxed learning environment utilizing hands-on, student-centered activities and presentations. I also integrated technology and real-time data acquisition, individual and cooperative work and ongoing formative assessment techniques. These strategies were and are useful for consolidating concepts and making real world connections and encouraging active participation.
I continually sought professional development to improve and enhance both my content knowledge and pedagogy. I also have spent a year mentoring a senior teaching apprentice and I was an adjunct at two local colleges – educating future teachers how to teach science. And I have many years of prior tutoring experience both privately and at an established learning center.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a teacher for 15 years.
I have experience tutoring all ages - especially elementary and middle school age - at Huntington for over 6 years. I will be able to assist any student with any reading, writing, math, or other subjects, including study skills and organization.
I am elementary certified by the state of NJ.
Having tutored for Huntington for over 6 years, I have worked with many many students in this area. I feel that my experience as a tutor and a teacher in the classroom will aid in helping students with their phonics, reading and vocabulary.
Part of being a classroom teacher, and a tutor, you have to help and guide students to the proper and more practical way to study. This I have done since I first became a teacher. You have to find a way to study that works for the individual student. I feel my experience in the classroom, in the college classroom and tutoring for a company and privately, make me qualified to do this.
