About Greg

Math and Volleyball

These two topics sum up my daily life. If I am not thinking about volleyball, numbers are running through my head.

I enjoy working with students and seeing the improvements they can make in just a few minutes - improvements they never thought possible. Sometimes, unfortunately, these are improvements that they could not make with their current teacher or coach.

General mathematics and algebra came very easily to me and I hope to transfer that to the students that I work with. I always work to lead students to the point where they can do a variety of problems on their own. It is imperative that they are ready for unusual problems and are able to find the solution without getting discouraged. Many areas of Math involve trial and error, so there has to be a willingness to not be afraid to fail. You must start over and try to find the answer again. Fail faster = Learn faster.

Additionally, I have been coaching volleyball for over 15 years. I have worked at the NCAA Division I college level, as well as having been a HS varsity head coach, and worked with many other ages from 8-18 year olds along the way. I have coached numerous players who have gone on to play at the college level.

I work at a high school, so I am able to use a classroom for math tutoring, or the gym for volleyball lessons.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to assist you in your future endeavors!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

I have been working in education for over six years. I was a study hall supervisor at a High School in Converse, IN from 2010-2013 and a High School in Kokomo, IN from August, 2013 to the present. I am comfortable working with students on a wide variety of subjects. My strongest areas are in Math and Social Studies. I have 121 hours of college coursework at Illinois State University completed as well.

Volleyball

I have been coaching volleyball for over 15 years. 2 years as a college assistant coach, including 1 year at a Division 1 school, Indiana State. HS varsity coach for 2 years. Club coach for various levels, 12s-18s, for over 10 years.
