About Chad

Hello, my name is Chad and I would say my two strongest subjects are math and music. I feel versed in teaching math grades up to Algebra I. I've actually studied much higher levels of math than this as an Actuarial Science Major at Purdue University. I've completed all the math requirements of their Engineering program and then some. However, it's been years since I've poured over every part of those higher math classes, so to be fair to the student, I will just say up to Algebra I for now. As a substitute teacher a few years back It was easy for me to convey math concepts of various levels to many of the students.

As far as music, I've studied it on my own and also have taken private lessons for the past 10 years. I believe I have developed a program for teaching it that is revolutionary. I had a student last summer that studied guitar with me. She had no former experience with guitar, but by the end of the summer she was writing her own songs!

Anyway, I love to teach because I love to see the student's satisfaction with themselves when they learn something they thought maybe they couldn't or thought would be difficult. One of my strong points in life from an early age has been my ability to teach and convey information to other people. I just seem to get through no matter what age they are. I'm patient and encouraging and students seem to be at ease in my presence.

A few summers ago I had a student who just couldn't do well in math his mother told me. Others had tried but he just didn't respond. She said I could try if I wished. I met the young man of 12 and right off, I knew he was clever, but he just didn't have the interest. Well, I talked to him and we started in on some of his homework problems. Soon he was doing them just fine. After about a month he was pulling an A in his class. Everybody has there strong points in life I believe, this is just one of my strongest.

I mentioned math and music are my strongest subjects, but I can teach other subjects as well. For example I really like to teach reading. Again, it's a matter of caring, being patient, believing in people, and conveying the information:)

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Guitar

Hello and thank you for your interest in playing guitar! The guitar is an amazing and wonderful instrument to learn to play. I have been playing since 2001 and it has added so much joy to my life and has also furthered my understanding of music.
The guitar is a great beginner's instrument because you can learn a few chords and start playing some songs relativley quickly, and even sing along with them if you wish!
The most difficult aspect at first is just getting your fingers used to pressing down on the strings and changing finger shapes from chord to chord. This can be easily done if you just spend a little time each day making the chords. Then your fingers will adapt and you're on your way!
I can show you the most important and easiest chords to learn:)
Once you have some opportunity to play and have some fun, you can go deeper into it and learn some music theory that will enhance your ability to learn more songs quickly and even write your own songs!
I have put much time and effort into developing a system that is amazing in its ability to really help one grasp some fundamental aspects of music that make all music and instruments make sense including the guitar. I'm betting you will marvel at yourself once you know it.
My method is not tedious like many music methods are, but very fufilling. You will see rewards right at the start and it will continue to get better.
After you have an idea of how to have fun with the instrument, if you wish to go deeper, I will teach you things like How To Build Chords, The Twelve Bar Blues, Transposing, The Pentatonic Scale in Soloing, and the concept of The Relative Minor. In my opinion these are power house concepts that bring the world of music to your fingertips.
You will be playing guitar and even writing your own songs if you wish and not even have to learn the tedious practice of sight reading music unless you want to.
In six months tops, possibly three months, you will be dazzled at how you understand the world of music and what you can do with it to add joy and creativity your life. It's relatively simple and amazing! Best wishes on your musical journey what ever it may be:)

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is a great foundation math for all higher level mathematics, as well as a good practical math to know for everyday life. This is a big reason why I like to teach it:-)
