Hi, I'm MacKenzie! I am currently a junior at the University of Indianapolis and I'm majoring in mathematics education. Hi, I'm MacKenzie! I am currently a junior at the University of Indianapolis and I'm majoring in mathematics education. I chose this major because I truly enjoy helping others learn (I enjoy it so much that in high school if I saw other students struggling, I would offer to help them.) I chose to pursue a career as a math teacher, because I felt that math was the subject that was the most stressful to students. My hope is that I can teach math in a way that is less stressful to students. For the last year, I have been working as a tutor at my university's math tutoring lab. When tutoring a student, I like complete an example together so that the student has a reference for how to solve the problem on their own, after going through this example I ask the student to try a problem on their own, as they do this I correct any misunderstandings that they have. I also put a lot of focus on figuring out the student's learning style and then adapting my tutoring to them. As a mathematics education major, I have had field experiences where I have had to help multiple students at the same time. As a result of this, I have developed my ability to tutor multiple students at once and split my time between them appropriately. I am looking forward to getting to know and help more students!

When it comes to math, I think my biggest strength is that I am able to think of several different ways to explain a single concept to a student. I have a lot of patience when working with students and will work with them find a style of learning that works best for them. I try to explain math concepts in a way that will relate them to something a student has already learned or experienced.

I am a very successful student. In high school, I was valedictorian of class and I received the Lilly Endowment Scholarship. While in college, I have made the Dean's List every semester. I have achieved this success because of my excellent study and organizational skills. My study habits include organizing and planning when I am going to complete assignments so that I can spread out my assignments over the course of my week. This helps me avoid waiting until the last minute to complete an assignment or study for a test. One thing that helps me study for tests is taking organized notes, and I also like to color code my notes so that it is easier to find important information.

I'm looking forward to getting know you and helping you improve your knowledge of mathematics! :)
