I am an Aerospace Engineer working for Rolls-Royce, and I have been involved with tutoring - both as tutor and pupil - for the better part of the last decade. In high school, I tutored adult Hispanic immigrants to the United States in English, while also tutoring a middle-school aged French immigrant to assist in her transition to the U.S. Our sessions were focused mainly on English and mathematics, but also included science and history. Later, while studying at Georgia Tech, I had the good fortune to work as a Teaching Assistant for an Economics class. This gave me the opportunity to work with students in a classroom setting several times a week, and meet with them independently during Office Hours.
As a student, I took the SAT test only once, earning a perfects score of 800 on both the mathematics and reading portions. My education in mathematics has continued extensively throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies, in subjects ranging from trigonometry and algebra to calculus, differential equations, and statistics. Furthermore, I continue to apply my mathematical skills every day in my work as an engineer. With regards to the reading portion of the SAT, in addition to being an avid reader, I have worked extensively with non-native English speakers to improve their reading, comprehension, and writing. My formal education in English included International Baccalaureate English at the Higher Level in high school and multiple courses during my collegiate studies.
My work as both a tutor and a Teaching Assistant was incredibly rewarding. I found the challenge of teaching new, often complex material to students both interesting and exciting. Being exposed to different people, with different learning styles and from different backgrounds, has pushed me to be more flexible in my approach to teaching and helped me deepen my own understanding of the subjects I have taught. I look forward to continuing the process of learning and teaching others.
