About Kevin

Why should you choose me as your tutor? Let me tell you about my professional and creative background.

My master’s degree is from the University of Colorado in Denver, where I graduated from the Urban Design program with the Outstanding Student award, for having the highest GPA in the graduating class. I am a member of the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts. Before pursuing my master’s degree, I earned degrees from the Art Institute in media arts and Ball State University in environmental design and landscape architecture.

I've been a design instructor since 2002, teaching courses in web and graphic design, as well as software for interior designers. Courses I have taught include Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and AutoCAD, as well as Revit, Sketchup, Digital typography, Design Fundamentals, and Information Architecture. I have tutored students (ranging in age from 17 through 65) in software courses for many years, as an extension of my teaching position. While that has taken various forms, I find that online tutoring provides an easy way to connect with my students and share screens. This way, I can both demonstrate tools and methods, and watch students as they apply these tools and methods to their own projects. If you are local, I can work with you in person as well. While most students are seeking technical help with software, I can also provide constructive critique for the creative and aesthetics aspects of the student’s projects.

Prior to my teaching career, I spent 20 years working in the design industry, as a designer, draftsman, and media artist with design firms in Atlanta, Dallas, and Denver. I have an artistic eye, having studied art, photography, and design during my undergraduate and graduate school years.

My schedule is flexible and I can be available most days. I'm very knowledgeable, patient, and I understand how to explain complicated topics clearly. If you need to start at the beginning, we can start at the beginning.

I love the creative process and the potential of design software. Let me help you learn to do amazing things!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

AutoCAD

I have 15 combined years of industry experience with drafting, including traditional hand drafting and AutoCAD drafting. I have been teaching introductory AutoCAD for a least ten years now. I tutor AutoCAD students on a regular basis, so I understand the typical issues they have with understanding this complex software.
