About Sarah

Hello!

I am Sarah. I currently work as a Biochemist for a pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis, IN. I am a recent graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Forensic Science. I graduated with an overall GPA of above 3.0 and a major GPA of over 3.25.

I started tutoring others when I was a junior in high school, totaling 6 years of tutoring experience. During those years, I have focused on tutoring students in mathematics and science courses in addition to one student in social studies and study skills. Specifically, I have tutored high school chemistry, various college chemistry courses, 11th grade physical science, algebra I, algebra II, pre-algebra, and elementary math, social studies, and study skills. As an undergraduate student, I participated in study nights with Alpha Chi Sigma, the professional chemistry fraternity. Study nights were an opportunity for fellow members to come receive help from members who had previous taken chemistry courses. In addition to participating in Study Nights, I worked for Triangle Tutors in Raleigh, NC for 1 year. During that year, I helped a struggling high school student with his physical science course as well as overall study skills. All other experience comes from tutoring family, friends, and neighbors in the Bel Air, MD area in various courses mentioned above.

I believe in catering the approach and lessons to each student’s individual needs. I understand that every student learns differently, so it is important to individualize to his or her needs. Over the past 6 years, I have helped students over the summer get ahead in preparation for the next school year, regularly over the course of a semester in order to keep up with the class, and prepare for an important exam or final at the end of a semester. I use a variety of teach techniques when it comes to lessons with students. These techniques include but are not limited to warming up with review of previous material, mini quizzes, hands on activities, real life examples, and more. I am always trying to figure out how to best explain new topics to students.

I am typically available evenings Monday-Friday, and mornings on Saturday and Sundays. I offer lessons online and in person! I believe that every student should be able to have one-on-one attention when it comes to their education. As a tutor, I will provide them with that as well as someone who will encourage them and believe in them. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goal whether it is test prep, getting ahead, or staying on track in school.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

When in college, I took a variety of anthropology courses including Physical Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology and Forensic Anthropology. I earned a B or higher in each of these courses. I was 3 credits away from a minor in anthropology as well.

Chemistry

I have a bachelors degree in Chemistry from North Carolina State University, and I have been tutoring chemistry for 7 years. I have tutored high school and college leveled students.

Personable and breaks it down

We reviewed VESPR models, periodic trends, and Born Haber cycles in great detail. Sarah showed me that I do know the topics, I just needed help with all of the tiny exceptions and grander ideas. She's a wonderful tutor that breaks it down and ensures you truly understand. Will be using her again without a doubt.
