Ithaca College (Biochemistry, French)
Rutgers University - New Brunswick (PhD)
One of the best things about tutoring is seeing students exceed their expectations. I've been working as a tutor since I was in high school, and have experience tutoring French, Biology and Chemistry at the college level. While in college I also was a departmental TA for French and Chemistry, and employed by my school as a peer tutor for Biology and Chemistry. As a graduate student, I taught 100-level and 400-level biology courses. I love teaching and working with students to help them achieve their fullest potential.
I feel like I've been teaching and learning science forever. Both my Bachelor's degree and PhD are in the science field, and I'm used to working with college-level science students, especially in the biological sciences. I love working with students to help them do better than what they thought was their best.
Learning and practicing the French language has been a passion of mine since I was 11. In college, I turned this passion into a major, and received a second Bachelor's degree in French Language and Literature.
If you're interested in working with someone who is not just good at teaching, but excited about it, contact me! :-) One of the best things about tutoring is seeing students exceed their expectations. Shanique really helped me by further understanding concepts rather than just memorizing facts and not truly comprehending them. She is very nice and always tries to make time to fit me in for tutoring.
My daughter picked up on the material almost immediately. She has been struggling for a while and was only able to learn because of Shanique!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a biochemistry major in college, took biochem in grad school, taught basic biochem in grad school, and spent June-Sept building an advanced biochem course for junior/senior undergrads and med students.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology. I especially have lots of experience working with students taking General Biology.
Chemistry is one of my favorite subjects to teach! I loved watching students "get it" when they realized how chemistry is relatable to many different aspects of their lives. My undergrad degree in Biochem gave me a strong chem background, and experience as a Chem TA and also as a chem tutor for my college.
I've been a student of the French language since I was 11. It is my favorite foreign language, and I love getting to communicate with others in French. I have a Bachelor's degree in French language and worked for my college as a French undergraduate TA.
I took genetics both at the undergrad and grad level as part of my degree requirements for my B.S and Ph.D. degrees.
