University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (Anthropology)
Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (Graduate Coursework)
I am currently taking graduate courses in Museum Studies at IUPUI. I obtained a Bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in Anthropology and served with AmeriCorps as a Math Enrichment Tutor for one year. As a Math Enrichment Tutor, I worked with middle school students at an inner city middle school to strengthen their basic math skills. The goal of the AmeriCorps program was to reinforce math skills in order to better prepare students for their Common Core exams. During this experience, I also worked in the after-school program as a tutor and classroom instructor. I tutored all sorts of subjects and taught classes in English, History, Science, and Fitness. I enjoyed working with middle school students in this environment and would love to continue tutoring students of all ages.
My work experience also includes nannying for families with a variety of needs. In this position, I was often required to assist children in completing homework assignments. Because I was an on-call nanny for a number of families, homework assistance could mean anything from getting a five year old to practice reading to helping a 14 year old with physics homework. This environment lent itself toward an interactive learning experience, which gave me experience in creative teaching and problem solving. I have grown as a tutor from my experience working with children of all ages on short notice.
My educational background is quite varied. I began college as an engineering student, so my coursework includes college level calculus and physics courses. When I decided engineering was not my ideal field, I took some natural science courses and ultimately transitioned to the liberal arts. This resulted in my education including a wide range of science, philosophy, history, and cultural analysis courses. Within anthropology, I focused on human evolution and archaeology, so I also have related knowledge of geology, ecology, and ancient cultures. This diverse educational background makes me the ideal multi-focus tutor for any student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
