About Andrew

I love learning and I love sharing my love of learning. I have a bachelor's in neuroscience and worked briefly in neuroscience research in rats. There I discovered that loved organizing and presenting data more than I did rats. I now work for a pharmaceutical company while I pursue a 2nd degree in applied math.

I am new to tutoring, but not new to helping people. I led software trainings in a prior position and most of my jobs have required me to explain new things to people. I been told repeatedly that I am great at explaining really complex things in a really simple way.

I know what it is to struggle and what it is to struggle with math. I dropped out of high school because of life circumstance in 1996. In 2009 I graduated Cum Laude from Franklin College. In between, I learned that being successful in school was not about being smart. It was about four things: organization, good study habits and knowing when and how to ask for help. I will consistently foster these three factors of success. If you're reading this, you've already succeeded at number three and four.

Motivation is very important and often ignored in school texts. One of the key things that students struggle with, especially in math is what the "point" is. Often times, once they understand the motivation or the goal, the problem starts to come into focus. I have a very broad education and work experience that I can draw examples from - to help them see that this isn't just scribbling on paper.

Drop me a line if you are interested. We can have an initial phone call to discuss what you are struggling with and to start thinking about how to tackle it. However if you want to dive right into material that is fine. Please bring a copy of the text you are using and appropriate writing materials.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
