Hello. My name is Tom S., and I would like to help you with your math course. I have had the privilege of tutoring over 70 students this past two years (with much success) in Pre-Calculus, Algebra 1/2 and 3/4, Geometry, Pre-Algebra and SAT/ACT Math. My students typically improve two grade levels, and feel much more confident! My goal for my SAT students is to help them reach their potential, with a goal of improving 100 points on the math portion of the test.
I have also enjoyed teaching Algebra 3/4 at IUPUI for five years with great results, Pre-Calculus at Herron High School, and more recently middle school math at Central Catholic School. I enjoy developing relationships with my students to help them understand mathematical concepts and develop confidence in their own abilities. We'll work together to help you do well in your current math course and to build a solid foundation for the future!

We got Tom to help our son prep for his Geometry final. My son's biggest problem was a lack of confidence with the subject, and Tom really made him feel more comfortable with the study material leading up to the test. I wish we had done this sooner!
Ending the first semester of her Junior year, my daughter finished with a C in the class and F on her final in math. The work with Tom started right away. I am extremely happy to say that the second semester of the Junior year ended with an A on the final and an A in the class. My daughter swears that Tom was her best ally and teacher. thanks Tom. Tom has been tutoring my son in Geometry, for several weeks with wonderful results. Tom is patient and has established a good relationship with my son. He explains the information in a way my son can understand and helps him feel successful in Geometry. I recommend Tom as a tutor and we will be working with him next year for Algebra 2.
My daughter is really struggling with algebra and Tom is taking the time to really find out what she struggles with the most. He going to have her work on those particular things so she can understand what she is doing, before moving on to what's next.
Tom came prepared with worksheets for my son. He was very organized, focused and ready to work. I like that he had my son find his own mistakes and that he gave good advise on better techniques to stay organized. Tom is also very good with communication to parents.
While I have challenges with college Algebra, I do feel more confident approaching homework, and quizzes after working with Tom. He makes it easier to understand. Context is everything!

Tom was a wonderful tutor for my son. My son was in danger of flunking Algebra and not graduating! Through Tom's guidance and command of the subject matter he was able to make Algebra understandable to my son. Tom has a great gift of patience and proficiency. Tom S. has been a patient and knowledgeable tutor for my son over the past five months. Tom has helped our thirteen year old in the area of pre-algebra. Tutoring twice per week is a lot for a seventh grader, but Tom's visits were always looked forward to and his help always helped our son gain knowledge of his subject and prepare for tests. We have seen our son's grades improve from last semester. Tom has a good sense of the important fundamentals that must be mastered to move on to Algebra. He has a keen way of having his student identify their process for solving problems. This has helped our son learn the proper techniques for Pre-Algebra. Tom is an excellent tutor. My son was struggling in Geometry but Tom was able to explain difficult concepts in a way that my son could understand. My son's grades improved over the course of the semester and I am planning on requesting Tom next year as my son's tutor for Algebra II.
Since Tom began working alongside my daughter in Geometry, her confidence and understanding have improved, and so have her grades. It is not surprising these days for her to earn an A or A- on a test or quiz, and her average has improved from a C+ to a B+. Tom works patiently with my daughter, who can struggle with staying focused for math, and he seems to have a good sense of humor about things. Most importantly, though, my daughter seems to be retaining what Tom is helping her with. Math is not my daughter's strong suit. She might learn a concept one day, but not be able to recall it the next. Since working with Tom, things seem to be "sticking" much better than before, and that is taking much of my daughter's "math anxiety" away. And, that is a pretty wonderful thing! :)
Tom has been tutoring our son for several months. The initial learning curve was difficult yet our son has now pulled his Algebra II grade up by having high A's and even 100 on his exams. Tom has been able to identify our son's learning style which allows for an effective tutoring session. Our son's success is due to Tom being able to accurately explain the math process as well as allowing positive reinforcement when working on problems. We are thrilled with the outcome. Tom has done an outstanding job with my daughter. Not only is he helping her to understand math he is also teaching her good study habits. He always communicates after each lesson by providing a session summary and he is able to teach my daughter based on her own individualized needs. She has responded to him well and just got a 95% (her first A)on her first math test since starting with Tom. I am extremely happy with Tom's work!

When I first went on my search for a math tutor for our daughter, I was looking for someone who was knowledgeable and very patient. Our child was not very confident in her math skills and therefore suffered from the classic "math anxiety." We needed someone who was going to help build that confidence in an encouraging way. Tom surpassed all of our expectations. Tom was, first and foremost, extremely knowledgeable of the subject, and was skilled at breaking it down in a way that made sense to our child. When she had a test that week she always felt prepared, and less stressed knowing she had a good grasp on the material because of her tutoring sessions with Tom. As a result, there has been marked progress in her math skills, and an improvement in her test scores and grades. Tom was incredibly patient with our daughter and was able to build a good rapport with her, which made it all the more enjoyable. He was professional, and was a good communicator providing us with detailed weekly reports on their sessions. Tom tutored my son in his online geometry class. My son really liked Tom's teaching style. Tom was able to break the material down in a format where my son could understand and retain the information. My son ended with a B+ for the semester grade! I wanted a tutor for my 10 year old son to make sure there are no gaps as he progresses to the next grade. I like that Tom quickly tapped into his strengths and weaknesses and began addressing the weaknesses in a way that my son is not only gaining understanding, but feels more confident about his math skills. Tom is always professional and polite, but he comes to the table with a plan for the day. He is not looking for just the "right answer", but he wants my son's understanding to develop. I truly appreciate that. Plus, my son enjoys meeting with him during the summer! It's amazing that he has made learning so engaging that my son wants to do it during his summer break!
Tom did a great job with our son. He was struggling in his senior year with his geometry, but Tom was able to help him focus and score well on his last two tests and the semester final. Tom has provided immediate help to my daughter. The first lesson was very productive. He jumped right into the task and knew exactly where to begin. I also appreciate his style of instruction. He helps the student to develop the appropriate thought process and approach to thinking about the problem. He asks lots of questions to guide the thought process and has a positive, patient approach. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching and tutoring the elements on the ACT Math Section Test for over five years with great success for my students. Most of the 60 questions on the Math Section Test are algebra and geometry questions, with four trigonometry questions also included.
