Savannah College of Art and Design (Sequential Art)
Hello My name is Kathryn or Katie. I am an artist in the Indianapolis area and I really enjoy working with young artists. I am very good at working with students with learning disabilities as I have one myself and in college at Savannah College of Art and Design have worked with students with LD through a program called Jumpstart. I have learned through my own education and through assisting others that artists have different learning styles from others so I will be sensitive to your needs. I also know what colleges and design companies are looking for in portfolios so I can assist you in building one too. I have also worked with young students at JCC camp and also B'nai B'rith Beber Camp.
I have a vast knowledge in Adobe Photoshop and also Corel painter, even though I work digitally, I am excellent at markers, I also excel in watercolor, pencils, inking and other media. If you or the intended person to tutor is interested in Manga or comics I can help with storytelling skills, drawing in perspective, compositional skills, figure drawing, storyboarding for animation or television.
My major was Sequential Art which is a very big term for Visual Storytelling and Comics, however Sequential art also covers concept art for games/animation and storyboarding.
Another thing I have learned at SCAD is how to critique effectively. I know that your art is your soul and really dear to your heart, however the student needs to be prepared for constructive criticism and how to internalize, use it to improve, and know when to ignore someone who is just bashing your artwork.
I am very compassionate and love to see other people grow with their artwork.
Please allow me to be a part of you or your student's journey to grow and develop their talent.
~Katie Hello My name is Kathryn or Katie. I am an artist in the Indianapolis area and I really enjoy working with young artists. I am very good at working with students with learning disabilities as I have one myself and in college at Savannah College of Art and Design have worked with students with LD
Katie is very professional and knows how to read my daughter and understand when she needs more encouragement. She is very spot on with her lessons and gives you the opportunity to let her know what you are interested in or having trouble with. She is very accommodating and very responsive. My daughter has Asperger's and has anxiety. It was important for me to find the right instructor for her. I am convinced that we did. My daughter looks forward to her time with Katie, and feels comfortable with her and knows she is nonjudgmental with her work, and extremely patient. She is also very pleasant and easy to talk to. My daughter has learned various new techniques and is improving every week. I highly recommend Katie to anyone interested in learning to draw etc. or someone wanting to improve their talent. She works with you at your level, and pace. Like I said she awesome!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified in Adobe Photoshop because I have worked digitally in it for over 10 years. I know all the shortcut keys and use them to speed up drawing and painting digitally. I attended Savannah College of Art and Design and used it throughout the four years of classes that I took there. I took three classes that specifically used Photoshop as a medium.
I have taken numerous classes on drawing and design at Savannah College of Art and Design. I draw regularly and also have taken figure drawing classes. I have also worked with many students who have learning disabilities and can critique with constructive criticism without hurting the students feelings or discourage them.
I have worked on a Mac in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe products since I was in Middle school. I know all the shortcut keys for Mac and use a MacBook and Mac mini for working digitally with my artwork. Using the keyboard to your advantage in a digital drawing program is KEY for using Adobe on your Mac.
I have been painting in gouache, acrylic gouache, watercolors, and acrylics and enjoy working in color the only medium I am not comfortable with is oils. I have an excellent knowledge of color theory since I am a colorist for comics at heart. I am also excellent at painting digitally in programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, and Paint Tool Sai. I have taken many classes in digital painting and also traditional color theory at Savannah College of Art and Design.
