About Hillary

I am beginning my 4th year as a School Psychologist at an Indianapolis area private school. I service mostly grades 1-8 and have a very in depth and wide variety of knowledge of academics in those grades. I have been trained in the Orton Gillingham reading program, helped to develop a new math curriculum and also have created and lead a study skills/organization class for middle schoolers. I've been lucky enough to work directly with many students at all different ability levels, servicing social/emotional, behavioral and academic needs over the past 4 years. I have also spent many of my days after school and in the summer tutoring students as well.

Before becoming a school psychologist I also worked for 3 yrs at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in the Center for ADHD. In this position, I participated in a tremendous amount of research in regards to ADHD, and was able to assist in creating a now published organizational skills manual and program for students. Through this I gained tremendous experience working with children with ADD/ADHD and truly learning how to effective assist them in their struggles, while celebrating their strengths.

Working with students is my passion. I enjoy being able to watch as things click for a student, and help them learn new ways to problem solve that appeals to their strengths, while finding more effective ways to manage any struggles he or she may have. My goal is to make an impact and that after every tutoring session the student feels empowered and better prepared.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I worked for 3 years at the Center for ADHD at Cincinnati Children's Hospital where I worked one on one with children as well as with groups in the Center and also within many of the local school systems. I learned many techniques throughout this time about effectively managing children and teens with ADHD as well as helped create new research while researching all past information regarding ADHD.

Also, a very large percentage of students I work with and help assist as a school psychologist have a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD. I spend a lot of time helping provide classroom accommodations, organizational skills, interventions and overall helping them succeed!

Volleyball

I spent the past 3 years coaching middle school volleyball. I also played from the ages of 10-18. During that time, I played for my school as well as participated in club volleyball where we would travel and play in different tournaments. Volleyball is a passion of mine and I would love to help someone with learning how to play!
