Your children have only one chance for education, and they deserve the best!

Based on my over 17 years of experience as a full-time tutor of children and adults, I can tell that one-on-one tutoring practice gives the best results. I am dedicated, caring and reliable. I love helping others achieve to the best of their abilities, and then - beyond. Because I believe that everybody can better themselves.
The site does not show all the feedback kindly provided by my students/their parents, but let me know if interested, and I will email the rest of them (total 95+).

Together with the student, we map out the way to achieve our goals, and at this point I take an individual approach with everyone. So far, I've been working with students of ages ranging from 3 to 65, so I know that organizational skills, comprehending, learning speed, and simply habits vary from a person to another person.

I don't promise miracles, I just make them. My students always succeed! No matter if it is a three-year-old (whom I managed to teach to read before his fourth birthday!) or an adult student who did not have any faith that she could pass her pre-employment test, everybody reached their or their parents' goals.

No shows/no calls will be charged for the scheduled time for tutoring or a meeting - if 2 hours were scheduled, 2 hours will be charged. Cancellations less than 36 hours before the lesson will be charged for the scheduled time of tutoring - fee depends on the subject: $60 to $70 per hour.

My native tongue is Bulgarian. I use Russian, Macedonian, Serbian, and Croatian on different levels, and this helps me teach people of different origins and cultures.

Since the beginning of 2016 I haven't accepted interpreting assignments due to my busy tutoring schedule, but I am also an interpreter/translator. As a former nurse, I used to do mainly medical interpreting. My working experience started as a registered nurse in the surgery ward of St. Anna Hospital (Varna, Bulgaria), after I graduated from the Medical College in the same city (1989). As a RN, I provided peri-operative care outside of the sterile field, which included caring for patients prior to surgery and during recovery after surgery. Later I earned a Master of Science degree in Ecology (with additional major in Journalism) - from the Technical University Varna (1998).

In 2011-2012 school year I taught Life Science (Biology) in middle schools in Indianapolis, IN, as a student-teacher in the Teaching Program at the University of Indianapolis, and as a laureate of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.

I've tutored Bulgarian to Peace Corps individuals (2010-2012). I have also been tutoring Bulgarian to others interested in the language. While in Bulgaria, I translated a biography written by an English journalist (2004). I had been tutoring English for ten years to Bulgarian native speakers (both children and adults, 1995-2005) before moving to the States in January 2006. Here I mainly tutor English to Americans, but also to people from many different countries.

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

In my practice of over 16 years, I have been working with many ESL students - both children and adults. I have been tutoring English to people from many different countries: China, Indonesia, India, Haiti, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Greece, Brazil, Argentina, Panama, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia. I have helped them with reading, writing and speaking, so kids can have better grades at school and adults can find better jobs. I apply educational techniques that are designated specifically for ESL learners and help them become successful. Being a native Bulgarian speaker, I personally know the challenges on the way of learning a foreign language.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

I specialize in reading and writing test preparation, and also editing and proofreading papers. It doesn't matter if it is LA homework of a 3rd grader, a college assignment, or a research project, I apply the same dedication and perfectionism that are typical for me. I will help you refine your writing, so you feel confident that minor errors won’t be in the way of your success. My extensive educational background and professional experience produce successful students. I have a Master’s degree in Journalism and am a published author. I am also the author of a stipend winning essay (in 2009).
Russian,

Russian

Russian is not my native language, but is a language that I was raised with. I learned Russian in school – from 3rd grade to 12th grade. We studied Russian grammar, and Russian literature, our teachers were native Russian speakers. For many years during my elementary, middle and high school age I had been in a written correspondence with friends from Russia. There were Russian people in our neighborhood. I have also been watching movies, have read books and have listened to songs in Russian all throughout my life, and have a very deep understanding of the culture, and the "big Russian soul", as we say. As a hospital interpreter in Indianapolis, I have interpreted in Russian. I really love this language and tutoring it is very rewarding for me.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I can help students in K-6th grade who struggle academically. I have been full-time tutoring for over 16 years and have volunteered in K-6 schools for 5 years (one full day a week). I can assist kids in every subject, so they can improve their grades, their study skills and also their self-organizational habits. This school level is the foundation for children's success and very often determines their self-confidence for many years to come. I am known for holding high expectations for all my students and for being very patient. I have the strong faith that with individual approach and the right teaching techniques every child can succeed!
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Math won't allow any gaps in children's knowledge. Students need to know the material for their grade level in order to be able to proceed to the higher one. That's why I pay special attention to the individual details and make sure that kids have mastered what we've been working on. It boosts their self-confidence and makes them eager to move on to new challenges. Children see that learning math can be fun! I know that students’ attitude towards math at this school level is extremely important to their academical future and I always go the extra mile to build up the necessary positive viewpoint.
Handwriting,

Handwriting

In my career of over 16 years I have helped many students learn handwriting. No matter if it is a three-year old who is learning to write his first loops and lines, or an adult who is an ESL learner, I patiently explain, model and help everybody. Writing and reading go hand in hand and I have opened a literacy window in the lives of many. The first student I taught how to read and write was 7 year-old … when I was 9 year-old.
Phonics,

Phonics

The phonics teaching method enhances the ability to hear, distinguish, and operate with phonemes (the basic units of a language’s phenology). It assists the reader in sounding out written words and realizing how the sounds blend together in spelling patterns. In my work I use this method to help the student develop phonemic awareness of the special English phonemes. The fact that the letter names and the letter sounds are different in English makes reading challenging for both children and adults – far not only for ESL students. I have worked with elementary school students who are native English speakers, but struggle with reading, and if they don’t get help on time, later we see high school students who have troubles comprehending the material they read.
Reading,

Reading

Reading opens doors that bring us into new worlds. Regardless if it is a little child or an adult student, I help them learn to read with comprehension and intrigue them in reading, so they become lifetime readers. When tutoring reading with comprehension, I practice with my students to find the essence of each paragraph and then help them summarize the whole information we can get from the page/chapter. This way they learn how to study and it helps them become more successful in school; it also makes them understand and appreciate books better. My youngest student learned to read before his 4th birthday, and my own daughter could read and write by the age of five. I have opened a literacy window in the lives of many. The first student I taught how to read was 7 year-old … when I was 9 year-old.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

Study skills are as important as knowledge. In my practice I always coach on daily routines, too, since learning is a process, not an occurrence. Together with the student we map out the way to achieve our goals, and at this point I take an individual approach with everyone. So far, I've been working with students of ages ranging from 3 to 65, so I know that organizational skills, comprehending, learning speed, and simply habits vary from a person to another person. Bulgarian is my native language. I am a published poet, and I also have a master’s degree in journalism. I have worked for Varna Express newspaper and for the nationwide Radio Varna. I have been teaching Bulgarian to peace corps individuals since 2010. I also tutor adults in Indianapolis who are interested in the Bulgarian language because they have been dancing Bulgarian Folk dances for decades and want to understand the lyrics of the songs they love to perform. Some of them even visited Bulgaria for their honeymoon, and it is so touching for me to help them share their memories about it in Bulgarian. I’d love to teach Bulgarian to you. Every language gives us a bit more different perception and expands our horizons. There is a saying that I write on the first page of each new language student: "One lives as many lives as many languages one speaks."

I have worked with elementary school students who are native English speakers, but struggle with reading, and if they don’t get help on time, later we see high school students who have troubles comprehending the material they read.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Study skills are as important as knowledge. In my practice I always coach on daily routines, too, since learning is a process, not an occurrence. Together with the student we map out the way to achieve our goals, and at this point I take an individual approach with everyone. So far, I've been working with students of ages ranging from 3 to 65, so I know that organizational skills, comprehending, learning speed, and simply habits vary from a person to another person. I don't promise miracles, I just make them. My students always succeed!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra may intimidate both adolescents and adults; many may struggle to a point of feeling like closing down to math in general. I have seen the need to rebuild/reshape, restructure and assist in creating successful long-term learners with efficacy and solid retention of skill sets. I have also seen people who profoundly changed their view towards math after being tutored by me.

I applaud everybody who is willing to redirect his/her life! I support my students to have a bright future by empowering them to be independent, successful long-term learners and take control of their future pool of choices rather than be limited, stuck, and unfulfilled in careers because they have low self-esteem. Knowledge is power, and I absolutely love helping my students earn it!
Reading,

Russian,
