Huntington University (Music Performance and Education)
My name is James K. and I am a college sophomore attending Huntington University in Huntington, IN. I am a resident of Los Angeles, CA, but decided to further my education out of state and get recruited to bowl on the college team. I am majoring in Piano Performance and Instrumental Education with a Math minor. So far in college, I have had the opportunity to get connected with the community and work with the Academic Center for Excellence on campus and tutor students in any class they need help with and also tutor students in the community. Recently, I was hired last semester to tutor a high school senior in trigonometry and geometry. I am currently working at the Boys and Girls Club of Huntington County as a math tutor for the high school led through the organization and help a variety of students with special needs in Algebra, Geometry and other subjects as well. I also work with junior high school students. When I was in high school, I used to volunteer at my middle school and help my math teacher grade papers and assist in tutoring students after school in Pre-algebra and Algebra 1. I also helped a 6th grader this past semester in 6th-grade math. Also while in high school, I tutored a teenage girl in Algebra and over the past summer, helped a college student pass his Pre-algebra course at his community college. My tutoring methods differ depending on the student I work with. I like to find out about the student and keep in touch with the teacher to monitor his or her progress and use methods such as study skills and chapter review to practice with the students. I love working with kids and helping them. When I grow up, I want to become a music teacher and performer. Thank you and I look forward to helping your child soon.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken the ACT twice and scored a 21 overall. I am very good with tutoring students with special needs and disabilities. I have tutored in English and taught grammar, conventions, spelling, reading, and writing skills. I enjoy English and it is not just a language, it is something that we need to have to improve the well-being of society for education
I have done tutoring for Algebra 1 in and out of school and am currently tutoring an 8th grader in Algebra to get her ready for tests and catch up on assignments and organize her work. I am a musician and pianist. I have been playing piano for 13 years, I am classically trained with great ear training, aural skills, and perfect pitch and great theory skills. My sight-reading is pretty good but I have always wanted to have my own students and teach them all I know. I love the piano and it is my first-choice major as a BM in Piano Performance.
I tutored in PreAlgebra and Algebra at my middle school after school 2-3 times a week for community service. I tutored a student with special needs in PreAlgebra and Algebra and career development. Last summer, I worked with a student who took a Pre-algebra course at a community college and he got an A. During my last semester, I worked with a 6th grader who needed help with pre-algebra as well. I have most of my experience in this type of field.
