In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of music education with both piano and voice as my main instruments. I have two additional years of coursework specifically in the study of piano pedagogy (teaching). I have 35 years of piano and vocal teaching experience in all styles of music, and with a wide variety of student personalities and learning styles. I have also played piano professionally these past 35 years in school, church, and theatrical settings, serving mainly as a piano accompanist and vocal/instrumental coach.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from Roosevelt University in music education with a choral and instrumental (comprehensive) focus, and completed two additional years of study (1992) in the field of piano pedagogy. I have been coaching and directing singers, pianists and instrumentalists in churches, public and private schools, and community theaters in my area for over 30 years. I have been singing and accompanying professionally during that time, also.
