I am the mother of three sons who all became Eagle Scouts, US Navy veteran, and a Blue Star Mother. I love to help people learn so they can succeed. I worked as a teacher's aide and Title I liaison for Elwood Middle School for 8 years where I also did after-school help sessions and summer tutoring.
I just completed my student teaching for my elementary license in December 2011. As the oldest of 9 children, I have always been around young children. I am a Christian. I am a non-smoker. I was impressed with her patience! My daughter struggles with math and is failing her 9th grade algebra class. Ms. U. is patiently working with her on her current work and addressing deficits in her math skills. The first lesson went extremely well and we are looking forward to continuing her tutoring.
Laura has been tutoring my daughter for a couple months now. She's wonderful. Very patient and helpful and explains in a way she can understand. I highly recommend her!
Laura was able to meet us on short notice and did everything she could to fit us in her busy schedule. My daughter felt very comfortable with her and we will hope to have many more tutoring sessions with her. Thank you Laura !!
Laura had helped my grade significantly. Very good at explaining it to me on a level making it easier for me to be able to understand . She puts me at ease
Laura helped my nephew prepare for a specialized exam. He was not only very pleased with her help, but after taking the test, felt that he had done very well and that Laura had helped much to prepare him.
Laura is very approachable and happy to help in many ways, and I would recommend her to anyone in need of a tutor.
Laura tutored my daughter this past school year. My daughter was struggling in algebra 2. Laura was easy to work with and patient despite a very difficult to work with online school system. She even came on a moment's notice when my daughter was struggling on an online test and stayed for 5 hours until the assignment was completed. I would highly recommend Laura for tutoring.
Laura presented herself quite well. My granddaughter took to her easily. She seemed to know how to pin point problems in a short time. I know with more time my granddaughter will get that A she strives for we're patient and positive all will be worth it in time. So glad she's on board with us. Will work with schedules.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with homeschooling students over the past 3 years in the areas of higher math. I have worked with Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trig, Geometry, and Pre-Calc.
I have a strong math background, and I also have a support system to get assistance if I need it.
I have completed the Transition-to-Teaching through Indiana Wesleyan for an Indiana Elementary license, as well as Red Cross training for First Aid/CPR/AED.
I was a teacher's aide for eight years at Elwood Middle School prior to getting my degree in Business Administration so that I could enroll in the Transition-to-Teaching program with Indiana Wesleyan. During this eight year period, I also did after school and summer tutoring for students.
I completed three semesters of student teaching in an elementary setting. I was in a first grade, a second grade, and a sixth grade classroom. I was given high reviews by my coordinating teachers and by my university supervisors.
I was a den leader and the committee chair for my sons' Cub Scout pack and then was a committee member in their Boy Scout troops.
I enjoy working with the grammar and the English language. I have been nicknamed "The Grammar Guru" by my sons and former students when I worked as a teacher's aide at Elwood Middle School.
I have passed the Reading Specialist Praxis test to obtain my transition to teaching certificate from IWU.
