About Wayne

As an undergraduate at Yale University, I have held myself to a high standard my entire life, and hold myself to a high standard when tutoring and teaching.

My tutoring/teaching experience spans across middle school, high school, and collegiate levels. Throughout middle school and high school, I worked with my schools' guidance departments to help students needing remediation and amassed over 100 hours of tutoring service. At Yale, through the Community Health Educators program, I teach workshops to New Haven Public Schools about STIs and Contraceptions. At a Yale learning program designed for middle school and high school students, I designed my own hour long class titled "Why Are We Taking So Many Tests: Education Reform and the Accountability Movement", and taught classes of 20 to 40 students.

I am passionate about tutoring because I am passionate about learning. I plan on majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics and becoming a Yale Education Studies Scholar, and consider myself to be a truly interdisciplinary learner and teacher.

Regarding grammar, I scored a perfect 800/800 on the SAT Writing section. I can teach people basic rules and tricks that can improve their grammar and standardized test taking skills.

On a more advanced level, I am a capable of proofreading of class assignments, scholarship essays, college admissions essays, and articles for content, style, and fluidity. I have amassed upwards of hundreds of hours of copy-editing at high school and collegiate publications (including at the the nation's oldest college daily, the Yale Daily News), and will be editing professionally this summer at a professional journal based in DC, Anthropological Quarterly.

Above all, I love editing and writing because they are passions that I love sharing with people. Whether it's instilling confidence into a middle schooler to help develop style and fluidity, helping high schoolers study grammar for standardized tests, helping juniors and seniors develop their voices for college admission/scholarship essays, I believe that everyone has a great writer in him/her, and it just takes some hard work and help to reach one's full potential.

In particular, I find it really rewarding to help students craft personal statements for college admissions essays, as I know firsthand how important they can be in admissions. Your admissions essay is your one change to inject your own personality into your application and present a new, interesting perspective about yourself; I can help you brainstorm ideas, edit multiple drafts, and make you come across the best you can.

As a prospective Ethics, Politics, and Economics major at Yale University, I am capable of explaining basic micro and macroeconomics principles.

Environmental Studies is a subject that I have studied since high school.

Feel free to shoot me an email letting me know what specifically you're hoping to learn! You are also free to ask me to send you an example of a work I have edited, or ask me to make read/edit several paragraphs of a longer piece that you would consider having me work through with you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
