About Diane

I love to see students of any age thrive as learners. I've worked with students of all ages, in both a formal and informal setting. I love to challenge students to think outside the box and gear all my lessons to the particular student's learning style.

It isn't uncommon to find me and a student in a teepee in the family room learning about the history of our country or outside throwing a football learning to spell. I love to read a variety of subject matter, do word search, crossword puzzles and develop games for learning. I use recipes and baking to teach simple fractions, in addition to any and all technology. I believe in teaching to the particular learning style of the student, whatever their age. My goal for each lesson is to challenge the student but leave them excited for our next tutoring session.

I've worked for KinderCare as an Assistant Director and the Lead Teacher for school age children. In this capacity I developed activities pertinent to K-5 age children in a mixed age situation, as well as overseeing all the other classrooms and curriculum in the daycare. The children ranged in age from 2 yrs to 12 yrs old. In that facility I also started a simple program to teach the children fundamental Spanish.

I've worked with K-12 children, teaching General Music, Music Theory, Music History, Band and Choir, as well as giving both vocal and instrumental private lessons. I've done Dinner Theater, Marching Band, and performed at the first Christmas Festival in the Arts Garden of Circle Center Mall.

I've tutored many children academically in both elementary and high school, helping them become more proficient in Reading, History, Science, Math, Debate, Spelling, Vocabulary and Spanish. Improving grades in Reading, being able to give a book report or speech in front of the class with ease, learning a new Math skill in fourth grade, attending a contest with a music student or going to a Saturday SAT test to bolster a student's confidence, are responsibilities I take seriously. We are on the same team. I have worked with hundreds of children, helping them to achieve better grades, grow in their confidence and self-esteem through hard work and persistence. Many of the students I have worked with as a tutor or teacher, are now members of prestigious music organizations or teachers themselves.

I have A B.S. in Music Education with certification in several other disciplines and numerous awards of excellence.
I specialize in tutoring Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Spelling, History, Music, Public Speaking, ACT, SAT testing, Math to the 5th grade, and Instrumental lessons.

I am available for tutoring Monday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm and Friday from 9am to 1pm. I travel to the student, their school or the library near them. My base rate is $70 an hour. I look forward to being a part of your learning team and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Flute

I am qualified to teach Flute because it is my primary instrument of study. I played from fifth grade, through college and still play today. I have tutored several students on all woodwind instruments.

Music History

I attended St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer Indiana. My degree is Music Education, Vocal/Instrumental K-12. I taught General Music, Choir and Band in all those levels. Music History is part of each as well as the degree program I achieved.
