About Matthew

I have a love for teaching which began at an early age. In order to make money for my filmmaking endeavors as a 14 year old, I opened up my own piano teaching business and taught until I graduated high school at the age of 17. Although I do not hold any particular religious affiliation, I also taught Bible classes of about 20 students each for several years while I attended school in Idaho. I am one year away from earning my degree in religious studies and will work towards earning my Masters degree in History. I hold a cumulative 3.95 GPA since the beginning of my college career in 2012. While I attended school in Idaho, I was a public speaking tutor as well as a primetime news anchor for our local radio station.

I have worked for a variety of newspaper publications including Microsoft, MSN, and The Kitsap Sun, all based in the Seattle area. I have received numerous awards for my work, including state and national gold medals for broadcast news performance. I am currently working as a television meteorologist and reporter.

I specialize in reading comprehension, essay writing, literary analysis, religious or biblical studies, public speaking and all things media-related. I am also available for specialized tutoring in the field of meteorology and college algebra.

Tutoring sessions can be individual or in a group setting. I am committed to creating a calm, fun, stress-free and professional atmosphere which will help foster learning and success. Assignments, along with occasional assessments or progress reports, will be implemented so the student, parent and tutor can track the progress of each lesson.

I am flexible with time, but I do have a cancellation policy of 24-hours.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you along in your educational pursuits!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I taught morning Bible classes in Silverdale, WA, for two years. These subjects included all aspects of the Bible and philosophy. I also served a two year mission trip in South Africa where I taught religious courses daily.

Piano

I first learned piano at the age of 7. I ultimately started my own piano teaching business at the age of 14 and taught until I was 17. I consistently had between 10 and 14 students at a time through my middle and high school career. I arrange my own music and play the piano to this day.

I am proficient in classical music, but prefer to teach ages 7-15.

Public Speaking

I was a public speaking tutor at Brigham Young University-Idaho for one year. I helped students prepare write and present effective speeches. I am currently working as a television news reporter and weather anchor for the ABC affiliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where public speaking is a must daily!

Religion

I taught Bible study classes for several years between the ages of 18 and 21, ultimately going to South Africa to serve a mission trip for two years. For those two years, I facilitated and taught religious courses every day. I am also currently majoring in Religious Studies and will graduate next summer.

Video Production

I spent much of my childhood producing, recording, and editing films. I went on to be a teacher's assistant in broadcast production at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, WA, and I am currently working as a news reporter/weather anchor/video editor in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
