Hi! My name is Courtney. I primarily teach violin (classical and fiddle) lessons, which I have been doing professionally since 2012, and I have experience tutoring other instruments (viola, cello, upright bass, piano), as well. I offer lessons for students of all ages, children and adults. My approach to teaching involves identifying the student's interests and helping them find the path to pursue them. One of the most common questions I receive from non-musicians is, "Which instrument is the hardest to play?" I don't believe there is any objective way to measure that. Learning to play an instrument, any instrument, requires a lot of work. The hardest instrument for you to learn is going to be the one you don't want to play, and if you try to choose an instrument based on perceived difficulty rather than your desire to learn, you won't be motivated to play. Practice and finding the right teacher for you help (no teacher is right for every student), but the student has to be motivated to play if they are going to progress.
I have been playing the violin since 1991, and I have played and studied a variety of styles. As a child, I studied classical music with my private teacher. I took orchestra classes at school in middle school and high school, and I participated in a local youth orchestra. After high school, I participated in other ensembles, including my university orchestra and various community orchestras. I also worked as a freelance musician for awhile, performing at weddings and other events either as a soloist or as a substitute in an ensemble.
I would love to talk more about how I can help you reach your musical goals! Tell me more about what you would like to achieve, and let's schedule a lesson.
