I am a High school, middle school, and college Science teacher in the southern Indiana area with a passion for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. I tutor Students at any level in any subject within those three areas and tackle the hardest classes with passion and expertise. I particularly love all upper level Biology classes and am confident I can help with the most difficult classes as well as the basics.
My background includes a B.S. in Biology from Indiana University, and a M.S. in Plant Biology from the University of Illinois. During the 6 years I attended the University of Illinois I had the opportunity to participate in research in Plant Biochemistry for the USDA studying climate change and its effects on corn and soybeans.
I also worked as a tutor for ethnic minorities at that time and was very successful tutoring Biology and Chemistry to a diverse group of students with very unique backgrounds and challenges. I began teaching high school and college in 2009 and have taught at 2 colleges and 4 high schools in the intervening time. I have taught Human Biology, Plant Biology, Zoology, Integrated Chemistry and Physics, Introductory Biology, and Microbiology at both the college and high school levels.
I have tutored AP Chemistry and AP Biology as well as Physics and Environmental Science for students from the 10th to the 12th grade and I have tutored Algebra and Geometry as well. I have experience with middle school students through my teacher's training and some substitute teaching that I have done over the past few years. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my passion for science with students of all ages. A 2 hour session or a 2 student session can qualify for reduced rates.
Kevin knows the content, just as importantly he knows how to adapt his teaching style to the specific student, very helpful, highly recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a published author in Plant Biology with experience teaching Introductory and advanced Biology at the High school and College level. I have tutored Microbiology, Human Biology, Zoology, Plant Biology, AP Biology, and Introductory Biology at all high school grade levels.
I have Master's degree in Plant Biology from the University of Illinois and 6 years of experience in applied agricultural research for the USDA. I am an avid naturalist and an expert on the native flora of the Oak Hickory temperate deciduous forest. I have taught undergrad level Plant physiology and Intro Plant Biology at two Universities.
I have had two genetics course at the graduate level, and one in undergrad. I taught genetics at the high school level for three years. I also helped develop initial methodology for understanding Arabidopsis thaliana genome at IU.
I have had two semesters of zoology, one undergrad Intro and one Graduate Advanced Invertebrate. I have two years of high school Zoology teaching experience. I have a number of resources including field manuals and text books to assist students.
