I am a retired college instructor (Edison College, FL; Ivy Tech Comm. College, IA; Butler University, IN) who spent most of his early career in high schools located in Massachusetts. I was an English teacher and a department chairman. It has been an enjoyable career because when I taught in high school I had to like the students slightly more than I liked my subject. With college students, I needed to love my subject (literature, analytical and creative composition, argumentation) more than I cared for my students. This orientation helped me because I knew where recently graduated high school students were coming from, and I could help them with strategies for success in college.

My teaching style is relaxed, purposeful, and characterized by interaction and humor. In tutoring, I will try to tailor my approach to the idiosyncrasies of your personality and your own learning style. I will not try to intimidate you; rather, I will try to motivate you and significantly improve your confidence with the subject at hand.

I love the power and the many purposes of the English language. If you develop various language skill sets, you will be recognized and respected as an educated person. I have always loved English, in literature, public speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary development. This was helped by the fact that both of my parents were English teachers -- my mother was a language arts teacher in junior high, and my father was a college English professor. I enjoy teaching ESL because I consider myself a host teacher to foreign visitors, and I know I am serving global ties that contribute to world peace.

Please contact me if you want to learn more of what I can offer you and when you would like to schedule lessons.

It will be a privilege to work with you.
