About Sasha

My love for teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. From working with students with disabilities to having a classroom full of students, I love to think of new ways to make learning fun and engaging! I am currently a 3rd grade teacher in the EVSC. My background of teaching ranges from preschool - 6th grade. I specialize in reading (phonics, fluency, comprehension, and many other reading concepts), math (elementary level), writing (print, cursive, narratives, persuasive, opinion, and grammar components). I have a vast background on prepping for ISTEP and the IREAD assessments.

My hourly rate for a tutoring session in any subject is $50. I enjoy getting to know my students on a personal level so that I can help them better. Challenging students without overwhelming them is key to helping them succeed. Another option that is available is an online tutoring lesson in which I will send an outline lesson plan. Online lessons are an hour.

I am certified through the Indiana Department of Education with a teaching license in elementary education (k-6). Teaching math through multiple concepts is a passion of mine. Catering to all learning styles (visual, auditory, tactile) makes learning fun and successful for students.

Feel free to message me to learn more about the different types of subjects and tutoring lessons I teach and schedule tutoring lessons.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am currently a teacher with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. I have worked with several students with ADD/ADHD. As an elementary teacher I have made accommodations to help ensure that students with disabilities are learning successfully. From years of teaching, I have many strategies to try with different students to meet their needs.

Autism

I did applied behavior analysis with students who had autism at Lifesong Academy for two years before becoming a public school teacher. Each client had a program to help with social, behavior, life skills, academic skills. These programs helped students with autism learn to become engaged in society.

Common Core

Having been a public school teacher in Indiana for three years, I have taught the common core standards in grades 2-3. Indiana has opted back into teaching Indiana standards with a mix of the common core standards.

Dyslexia

I have taught as a public school teacher for 3 years. In my time I have worked with a couple of students who have been diagnosed with Dyslexia. Working with the school resource teacher, we created accommodations that work for helping students with dyslexia. These strategies range from color reading strips to chunking reading assignments so the eyes don't get overwhelmed.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught preschool, first grade, second grade, and third grade as a public school teacher. I enjoy working with elementary level students and have the knowledge to help students gain knowledge to further their educational career.

Handwriting

Working in a preschool and in a kindergarten classroom, handwriting was an important skill. I use several different methods to keep children engaged and excited while learning. The methods range from practicing writing in sand to shaving cream. I have also taught cursive handwriting.

Phonics

Phonics is an important skills for new readers. Phonics is a skill taught in grades kindergarten-third grade. I have a lot of experience with phonics due to working with struggling readers in a school setting. I now teach third grade and still work on phonics skills. Phonics is a skill that is also testing on the Indiana IREAD test.

Study Skills

Being a classroom teacher, my students learn study skills. Several methods can be used by students when studying for multiple subjects. I have used "study skills" to help my students with identifying common sight words, addition and subtraction fluency, and even reading concepts.
