Previously a math major at the local community college. Decided to change majors to Game and Software Simulation Programming with Devry. I was a tutor throughout high school and tutored in numerous subjects. I like to take a laid back approach to teaching by first learning how my "students" learn best and then fitting one of numerous approaches to what best fits their learning style.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ASVAB is a general education test administered at the various MEPS centers across the country. It is a combination of four major areas including: Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Mathematics Knowledge. The test is timed and in order to do well will require some studying and brushing up.
My experience with this test is that I took the ASVAB test for entrance into the USMC in April 2007. My score on the ASVAB exam was a 97%.
While I have mostly high school tutoring experience, I also have 4 younger sibling who I have helped through their studies as well. Ranging from elementary school all the way through high school. So I have a good idea of how to help teach children in a way that makes it generally easy for them to understand.
Study skills can only come from time tested practice. The biggest part of study skills is being able to plan properly and schedule to devote time to learning what you need to learn. Having experienced recently working between 4 jobs and managing school work on top of that while maintaining a high gpa is a good indicator of study skills.
In my experience as a tutor in the past I have noticed that another important part of a person's study skills is simply knowing which learning style is best. Every person has an individual way of learning and as a tutor you have to "start from scratch" with everyone. There is no code for study skills that everyone follows, generally just wing it and go with what ever we find works the best.
