I have taught at the middle school, high school, and college levels and enjoyed all of them immensely. I have also received several awards for my teaching work, including a Lilly Foundation Teacher Creativity Fellowship and a Milken National Educator Award.
I am certified in mathematics as well as biology and physical science. I am a big believer in helping student develop deeper understanding of concepts and tools and how to apply them in lots of situations. I don't think that memorizing a bunch of recipes and algorithms to be used in specific situations is nearly as helpful. I will work with students to move past surface understanding to develop more sophisticated thinking.
