My love for teaching began as I grew up helping my mom teach Sunday School and when I was 14 years old I started teaching on my own. These experiences led me to study education in college. I graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan with a degree in education with a focus on math and social studies. I have taught middle school math and high school math, and between tutoring privately and for tutoring programs like 21st Century Learning, I have tutored almost every middle/high school math subject possible. I am certified to teach math K-12 in two different states (Arizona and Indiana). I recently stopped teaching full time so that I can be a full time mom. However, I still love teaching and am continuing to tutor part time.

As much as possible, I like to make math relate-able and enjoyable. I love to have fun, but I also make sure we get our work done. When I'm tutoring, it is all about you. I do not enter into tutoring with my own "agenda." You tell me what you need--whether it is help understanding a particular concept/lesson, or preparation for a certain exam or course, etc--and I will then tailor our sessions to your needs. I do not have a "one size fits all" approach, rather a custom approach based upon your needs as a student.

Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have 5 years of teaching experience of several middle and high school math subjects, including Algebra I. During that time I also tutored almost all of the different middle and high school math subjects, as well. When tutoring I do not come in with my own agenda, rather I listen to my student's goals and what they want to accomplish through tutoring and help them achieve their goals.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught various math subjects at public middle and high schools for 5 years. Algebra II is one of my favorite classes to teach! I can offer tips and tricks for how to solve different types of problems, and love to go step-by-step in order to help my students understand. When it comes to tutoring, I work toward the needs of my students. I do not come with my own agenda, but I tailor each session to your needs and goals. Contact me today to learn more or get started!
Geometry,

Geometry

I have two years of experience teaching geometry in a public high school. I have also guided students through an independent study of the course. I love geometry because there are so many hands-on and real-life applications. I even love those pesky proofs--which can totally begin to make sense once you start to think in step-by-step processes and logic. Contact me today to get started!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I used to teach Pre-Algebra at a public middle school. During that time, I also tutored students privately in all middle school math levels, including Pre-Algebra. When I tutor, I tailor all sessions to the needs of the student. If you need help with your homework, preparing for a test, understanding a particular concept, etc. I can help! Also, if you would like to study Pre-Algebra over the summer to test out of it (if your school allows that) and take advanced math in the fall, I'm happy to help with that, as well!

Flute

I have played the flute for over 20 years and have always excelled at it. I started college as a music major, but finished up in math education. I played in the marching band at the University of Michigan and continued to study flute privately and played in the other bands at U of M, as well. I have taught flute privately to both beginners and experienced players, and have taught group lessons, band camps, marching band sectionals, etc. I would love to help you learn to play, prepare for a contest, or take your playing to the next level. Pratical and very kind

Jackie helped my daughter with her Alebra 1 struggles. My daughter enjoyed meeting with her and highlighted how understanding and kind she was. She feels more comfortable meeting with a female tutor and Jackie has helped her feel this way. Very flexible and offered to help even outside of tutor time.

Jessica, 3 lessons with Jackie

Very knowledgeable

Jackie is a very good tutor who gets down to business quickly, but in a fun kind of way. She has helped a lot-with just one visit. My daughter felt so much better about algebra, after they met!

Susan, 1 lesson with Jackie

Friendly and knowledgable

Jackie helped my daughter with her geometry lesson. She was helpful and offered to give her contact information in case my daughter gets stuck on a problem at home. She showed up right on time and was cheery and responsible!
