My name is Fred, I live in Dyer, IN. I am the Technology Director at an area high school, and I teach high school and college level computer apps courses. I have worked with elementary through high school students on reading, English, math and history as well. I have a BS in Information technology from Purdue, and a Master's in Teaching from Calumet College.
Students often need more than the standard lecture to truly understand the concepts taught in school. I tailor the activities to the needs of the student, since different students learn best in different ways. I often use strategic questions to help my students think up solutions with my guidance, which gets them used to thinking in a logical problem solving manner. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught web development, html, MS Office suite, Internet research, creating a professional online presence, PC troubleshooting, Linux, Apple - MacIntosh software., networking, wireless networking.
I have a Masters Degree in teaching from Calumet College of St Joseph. I have taught High School and College classes in Computer applications, web development, and programming. I have tutored many students in reading and study skills. Many students find the Cornell system of note taking very helpful. Concentrating on the students organizational skills often yields better results in school. I have long believed students should be instructed on how to learn in school nit just what to learn.
