I love the Spanish language and its various cultures and feel the same way about teaching it. I have been a Spanish instructor at the college level for twenty two years, and currently I teach Spanish at Purdue University Northwest. I have also tutored extensively at the high school and college level. I have a tremendous amount of enthusiasm when I teach, and I really like the one on one interaction with students and being able to help them. I am not a native Spanish speaker, so I feel that I am very familiar with the problems that students face while learning the language.

Tom is a great teacher. He is knowledgeable and has the unique perspective of learning Spanish as an adult like my husband and I are doing. He is patient and encouraging and always makes sure he is going at the right pace for us.
Thomas was very helpful and understanding. He explained concepts and word formulation in a way that I understood right away. I would recommend Thomas to anyone that is in need of Spanish Language tutoring or as a review before going abroad.
Thomas is very patient and understanding with my student, she is enjoying her Spanish lessons.
Hopefully she will start talking in Spanish at least a little bit. Thank you.
Tom is a reliable tutor that can adjust his teaching to fit the need of a student. He understands the challenges that students face with the Spanish language and is committed to teaching the fundamental building blocks that are essential in the learning process. The combination of his passion for teaching and his past experience with mastering the Spanish language gives the student a constructive and positive learning environment. Gracias Tom for your patience and understanding in this learning experience.
We are very pleased to have worked with Thomas R. He is organized, knowledgeable, punctual, and professional. He has a way of making learning fun and productive. My teen was really losing confidence in his Spanish skills, but Thomas helped him recognize and fix his weak points, and boost his vocabulary. My teen started the school year ready to participate in class with a new found confidence and eagerness for Spanish class, thus increasing oral language skills. We plan to continue to work with Thomas as he has changed a dreaded subject into one of my teen's favorites.
We are absolutely Delighted to have Thomas as my daughter's Spanish Tutor! After failing high school Spanish and having no success with other tutors, my daughter is finally on track in her Spanish Class thanks to Thomas! He is an excellent teacher, and as much as my daughter hated Spanish, she is now considering minoring in Spanish when she attends College.
I can not say enough good things about Tom. He is patient, knowledgeable, and does an outstanding job in explaining the material to my daughter in a way that she can understand it. My daughter and I realize how lucky we are to have found Tom and have decided to keep him as her tutor until she graduates from high school!
¡Muchas gracias Ingrid! It has been a pleasure helping your daughter, and I look forward to working with her in future sessions.
Tom is very knowledgeable and is an expert with regards to the Spanish language. He is able to communicate well the logistics of this language so you can understand and learn not only the basics, but the more profound grammar rules, verbs, etc. He is always prepared, and has written learning materials, and materials for you to take home so you can practice what you are learning. He has been very punctual usually arriving before me at the library. He is easy to reach and responds to questions promptly by e-mail.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I teach Spanish from a non native Spanish speaker's perspective. I started learning Spanish as an adult so I believe I am very familiar with the problems English speakers face while trying to learn it. I teach Spanish tense by tense(past, present, future, etc) and break down each grammatical area(you name it, we'll go over it, just ask) so that a non native speaker can understand it, and put sentences together. I am very enthusiastic and positive about Spanish and teaching and I always try to transfer my enthusiasm to the students. El español es un idioma tremendo, ¡apréndalo!
