Bio

I have taught students in every setting you can imagine, whole classes in the general education setting, co-teaching in the gen ed setting, smaller groups in the special education setting. I've taught kindergarteners to seniors in high school. If I don't know how to teach something then I know how to find the answers you need whether it's through videos or educational platforms online.

The one thing that I love teaching the most is when I teach someone how to read.

I've taught every grade level of English, science, and social studies. I've also taught math up to 10th-grade geometry. I am familiar with google classroom, zoom, edpuzzle, flocabulary, reading A-Z, classkick, readworks. I try to make my lessons relevant to what my students like or as close to real-world applications as possible.

I have tutored over all of my 19 years of teaching. I have tutored during, before, and after school. This will be one of the few times that I've charged for my tutoring experience. I look forward to working with you and your child to make learning a success. I have raised 4 children into adulthood and am now working with my grandchildren in teaching them how to read.

I taught 7-10th grade math for over 13 years of my teaching experience. For the rest of my teaching career, I taught at the elementary level. I have a lot of hands-on learning games that incorporate math practice and fun into learning even at the algebra level.

I have learned how to effectively use reading programs such as Reading A-Z to make progress with beginning readers. I really enjoy helping students explore the adventure that only a good book has to offer. I find engaging ways to motivate my students to want to read more.

Teaching someone to read is the best feeling in the whole world! I can't wait to take your child on the adventure of learning letter sounds and blending them to make words and stringing words into sentences!

I would love to hear from you so we can schedule a one-on-one time to meet. I will respond to your inquiry

Elementary (K-6th)

I've taught all subjects in K-6 following the same curriculum based on IN standards as the general education students for the last 6 years. I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education and performed student teaching in the 4th grade. I also taught for a maternity leave for a semester at the 5th-grade level.
Phonics

Phonics

I have worked with children in regards to phonics by starting with letter sounds, then we blend the sounds into 3 letter words called CVC words. These all have a short vowel sound. Once those are mastered the students then begin to learn CVCe where the silent E makes the vowel a long sound instead of a short sound. From there consonant blends are introduced such as CCVC, or CVCC words.

I have taught and tutored algebra for 15 years. I can show students how to write, graph, and solve inequalities. I could go on and on about the different standards and how I know how to teach accordingly but the reality is I don’t know everything and I’m not an expert. I’m a special education teacher which means I know how to use my resources very well. I do know how to teach algebra and I taught it for 11 years and have tutored for 4, and I’m not ashamed to say if I don’t know right away how to do something I can use my resources and figure it out in order to help you succeed. Sometimes this is to my detriment because once I show you how you can access help you won’t need me as much, but that’s the nature of being a special education teacher is to teach my students how to be self sufficient and advocate for themselves. I’d love to help you become better at algebra and build your skills towards being independent!
