In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. AutoCAD is used by many engineering firms today as a 2D modeling tool. In which, the software has effectively replaced the hand-draftsman in the engineering office.
Many mechanical engineering firms will most certainly continue to move towards employing 3D drafting/modeling tools such as Inventor or SolidWorks. For civil engineers and architects, however, the 2D nature of AutoCAD is more than sufficient.
My experience in the office (NIES Engineering of Hammond, IN) and the classroom (Purdue University Calumet) lies in 2D drafting with this software (AutoCAD 2011 and 2011 Civil), and I will not venture to learn or teach 3D modeling with AutoCAD - there are FAR better programs which one can use to do 3D work. I am thus able to assist in any introductory coursework with AutoCAD, and can also assist with any matters of hand drafting. My professional experience includes work on drawing packages used in projects within the towns of Hammond, IN, and LaPorte, IN.
Calculus is the basis of high-level mathematics and serves to complete the study of algebra. It is through calculus that the mechanics of physics and engineering are modeled, and the properties of geometry defined.
As a student of civil engineering, I have employed calculus not only as a subject for general study, but as a tool which is able to model the dynamics of real-world problems. The understanding of calculus is essential when writing the algorithms for either a computer program or defining a system in engineering; I have done both of these examples in academia as well as for my own purposes. I have observed both effective and ineffective means for teaching mathematics, and through this experience am able to deliver an understanding of the subject.
Microsoft Excel is a fantastic tool for a wide variety of applications. Excel can be used for simple, mundane tasks, to operations resembling the output of dedicated software. It is just as useful in the guise of a simple calculator as it is in the role of generating graphical representations of numeric data.
My experience in Excel is focused primarily about my training as an engineer. Excel is invaluable in its capacity to not only display known data, but in its ability to assist the user in predicting the values of datapoints which are not yet known. I have used Excel to do both of these tasks in both simple assignments to independently driven research and projects.
I am most qualified as a technical proofreader, where my experience is principally drawn from higher-level technical writing coursework via the university (Purdue University Calumet). I write well in the passive voice, and am flexible enough to match the style required for a given task. Style and detail are very important issues which I focus on in writing, and great pride is taken in the work I produce or otherwise revise.
I have taken the SAT twice during my time in high school, once for practice and once more as a final effort. The SAT is not as challenging as it made out to be, and once the mechanics of the exam are understood by the student, the only real challenge becomes enduring the time required to complete it.
The math component of the exam is a culmination of the general algebraic, geometric, and early calculus concepts explored in most high school curricula. Once the student can visualize the scenario presented in a given problem, and be aware of the principals required to solve it, the math component of the exam becomes quite simple indeed.
