Hello! I am new to WyzAnt tutoring, but experienced in teaching--and more importantly--teaching one-on-one. I enjoy teaching/tutoring one-on-one as it gives me the opportunity to really make a difference in a student's life, as well as to help them develop a lifelong love of learning. My style of teaching can be described as "going the extra mile", teaching to their particular learning style, and constant positive reinforcement. My students have told me that I seem to understand their struggles, and that I have been able to teach them in a way that they understand and comprehend the material being taught in a way they hadn't before.
I have been teaching in and out of the classroom for over 15 years now, teaching all varieties of ethnicities and skill levels. In my current position,I teach middle and high school students who are unable to be in the classroom due to either medical or disciplinary concerns. I am required to teach all core subjects (English 6-12; Science: Physical, Earth, Biology, Chemistry; History: U.S., World, Geography, Civics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Government; and Math: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry), along with Spanish I. I am also trained and experienced in teaching the GED program.
In closing, I am excited and look forward to meeting you/your student soon, and together, we can discover/rediscover the joy of learning! Hello! Since I've been with Cheryl C., I have greatly improved my math skills in Algebra, Geometry as well as other areas.
Although I had many tutors answering my add, I'm glad I chose Cheryl. I look forward to many more lessons with her.
My son has struggled with this whole GED process. He needed someone who could help him learn at his pace. She finds something positive to say and keeps him on track. Cheryl shows up on time and prepared for the two hour session. I would recommend her for your child.
Cheryl always finds something positive to encourage my son. She at times needs to explain in greater depth skills my son is struggling to understand. I would recommend her for any child struggling with his/her educational success.
My son and I are very hopeful he will pass the GED requirements next month.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I feel I am qualified to tutor most middle and high school SOL subjects since I have been teaching with Chesterfield County Public Schools in Virginia, in their Homebound Department, for six years. As a homebound teacher, I am required to teach all subject matters, following either the classroom teacher's lesson, or teaching the class online. In my endeavors, my students have a 90% pass rate on their SOL's in the various subjects. I not only review the material with them, but also teach them tips on test taking and reading comprehension.
