Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra I is the first high level Math class and is the foundation for all future studying of Math subjects. Algebra I defines the relationships between sets of numbers. It covers operations, equations, formulas, polynomials, fractions, factoring, powers, roots, radicals, and proportions.

Algebra 2

Algebra II is the second high level Math class taken after Algebra I. Algebra II covers functions introduction, linear equations, inequalities, quadratic relationships, complex numbers, polynomial functions, rational and irrational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences, and series.

Chemical Engineering

In 15 years of successful experience in teaching various Chemical Engineering subjects, I have helped many college students raise their grades by 2 or 3 grades.

I worked in the Chemical Industry for more than 15 years as a Process Engineer. My teaching method is to lecture with diagrams, have the student work problems, and then test the student for retention.

My teaching method is to first show or teach, then have students perform what I did, and then review for retention.

Geometry

I have been successfully teaching and tutoring Geometry and Trigonometry for more than 20 years. I recently was able to help an honors Geometry student raise her grade from an F to a B within 6 weeks including the final exam for the semester. So, I can help you understand and excel in either Geometry and/or Trigonometry!

I especially love to teach and tutor Geometry and Trigonometry because they are the basis of all engineering types. Both are also very different than all other Math subjects like Algebra because the learning process is a sequential building process beginning with the first class. So, it is very difficult to “catch up” if a student gets behind in learning the basic concepts.

Linear Algebra

I have been successfully teaching and tutoring Linear Algebra for more than 20 years. I have been able to help students raise their grades by 2 or 3 grades. So, I can help you demystify and excel in Linear Algebra! I have an Engineering degree from Purdue also with a Math major. My teaching method is to lecture or teach, have the student do exercises, and then measure retention.

Linear Algebra concerns vector spaces and linear mappings between such spaces. It includes the study of lines, planes, and subspaces, but is also concerned with properties common to all vector spaces. Matrices, vectors, vector spaces, transformations, eigenvectors/values are covered.

Microsoft Excel

I have been installing, troubleshooting, upgrading, customizing, teaching, and tutoring Microsoft Excel for more than 20 years since the first release in Office 95 (version 7) through the current Office 2013 (version 15) which is also has been released as the Office 365 Cloud Solution.

My education includes the most recent CompTIA A+ Certification which covers Windows 7 and 8.1 as well as an MBA with an IT major. My Excel 2013 classes and tutoring engagements feature beginning, intermediate, and advanced curriculums. My teaching method is to first show, then have students do what I did, and then review what was just done.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been installing, customizing, teaching, and tutoring Microsoft Outlook for more than 20 years since the release of Outlook 97 (version 8) through the current Outlook 2013 (version 15). Outlook is a total PIM – Personal Information Manager for E-mail, calendar, tasks, and contacts.

My education includes an MBA with an IT major which covered PIMS like Outlook. My Outlook 2013 classes and tutoring engagements feature beginning, intermediate, and advanced curriculums. My teaching method is to show/instruct, have the student perform, and then test for retention.

I have been installing, customizing, teaching, and tutoring Microsoft PowerPoint for more than 20 years since the release of PowerPoint 97 (version 8) through the current PowerPoint 2013 (version 15). PowerPoint is a computer software slide show construction and presentation program that can incorporate multi-media features.

I have used PowerPoint as my visual presentation teaching tool since 1997. My education includes an MBA with an IT major which covered presentation programs like PowerPoint. My PowerPoint 2013 classes and tutoring engagements feature beginning, intermediate, and advanced curriculums. My teaching method is to show/instruct, have the student perform, and then test for retention.

Microsoft Windows

My Windows 7 and 8.1 classes and tutoring engagements feature beginning, intermediate, and advanced curriculums. My teaching method is to first show, then have students do what I did, and then review what was just done.

I have been installing, troubleshooting, upgrading, teaching, and tutoring Microsoft Windows for more than 20 years since the first release V 3.1 through the current V 8.1.

I have the most recent CompTIA A+ Certification which covers Windows 7 and 8.1.

Microsoft Word

My education includes the most recent CompTIA A+ Certification which covers Windows 7 and 8.1 as well as an MBA with an IT major. Networking (Computer)

My educational background in networking is very deep and broad - A+ Certification (2014) and MBA with Information Technology major. I taught and tutored hundreds of students in networking as an Associate Professor of Information Technology at a well known business school where I also managed the student computer laboratory. I used both student class room class teaching as well as one-on-one tutoring in the laboratory. More recently I have tutored many business clients on understanding, installing, and using, and optimizing networks. I have also installed and optimized hundreds of home and business networks.

Organic Chemistry

I have more than 15 years of experience in teaching and tutoring Organic Chemistry to high school and college students. Organic Chemistry is based on the carbon element which is also the basis of life and energy sources. Let me demystify Organic Chemistry for you!

I have B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. I also qualified for a Major in Organic Chemistry because I took 20 credit hours including classes and labs.

Physical Science

I have more than 15 years of successful experience in teaching and tutoring Physical Science. Let me demystify Physical Science for you! I have a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University which included Physical Science. My teaching method is to lecture with diagrams, have the student work problems, and then test the student for retention.

Physical Science concerns an area of science that uses the natural sciences of physics, chemistry, and astronomy to study materials that are not alive or are inanimate objects. Physical Science studies and reveals the ways in which nonliving things work.

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra is usually taken in Middle School before Algebra I is taken. It typically covers arithmetic review, integers, fractions, decimals, negative numbers, factoring, operations, simple roots and powers, evaluation rules, variables, 4 quadrant plane, and perhaps an introduction to the geometry topics of area and volume.

Precalculus

Precalculus covers lines and slopes, functions (introduction, graphs, combinations, transformations, quadratic, polynomial, exponential and logarithmic), systems of equation and inequalities, matrices, and conic sections. Trigonometry and sequences may be covered.

Study Skills

I have personally demonstrated that I have mastered study skills because I have obtained two very challenging degrees with very good GPAs as well as an information technology certification: a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University (3 out of 4 GPA), and MBA from the University of Pittsburgh (3.5 out of 4 GPA), and an MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) certificate. Since the degrees are all technical degrees with many difficult subjects and the certification is IT based, developing excellent study skill is essential to success. Throughout my professional business work and teaching careers, I have taught or tutored hundreds of subordinates and students on effective study skills. For example, as an Associate Professor of Information Technology at Stetson University, I managed the computer laboratory with student assistants and was an advisor to dozens of students where I was required to tutor them on developing good study skills. Finally, I raised 3 children who all excelled scholastically. I tutored all 3 of my children in study skills.
