About Carol

I am a retired mathematics teacher who is now tutoring since I really missed sharing my knowledge of math with others. I taught 8 years at the middle school level, 27 years at the high school level (including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Discrete Math (which is now called Finite Math). While teaching high school, I also taught night classes at the college level, where I taught all types of Algebra classes and Linear Programming. I have been working as a high school/college math tutor since 2011.

Learning math in a one-to-one situation is ideal. If the student doesn't understand something I explained, I stop and try a different approach. After teaching for 35 years, I know several ways to explain most concepts.

I am very patient, caring, and have an intrinsic desire to help my students achieve success in their math classes.

Please give me a try,
Carol

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been tutoring students who are preparing for the ACT for five years. At one of the schools in which I taught I was the co-chair of our Math Counts team. We placed second at the National Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, in 2007. Being a co-chair involves preparing students to handle problems with which they are unfamiliar, very similar to preparing for the SAT.

Algebra 1

I taught Algebra 1 classes for 26 years and have tutored students in this subject for five years. Having been Head of the Mathematics Department, I was given free textbooks and materials (which I still have) to help students learn this subject.

Wish We Would Have Known about Her Sooner!

We were at our wit's end on how to help our daughter pass Geometry. Traditional classroom instruction wasn't working. We tried other tutors throughout the school year but they didn't help her. Finally, as a last resort, we decided to try online summer courses with help from a WyzAnt tutor. Carol has been amazing! She's thorough, patient and caring. With her help, our daughter is finally "getting i
