Each person learns differently. Reading from a text works great for some people. But in my experience, most students understand a subject better when they learn through using real examples, sketches, and visual materials. I have enjoyed helping students "get it" for over 20 years as a teacher, university faculty member, tutor, and director of a nonprofit school and learning center. Now I want to use that experience to help you succeed.

I have enjoyed helping students "get it" for over 20 years as a teacher, university faculty member, tutor, and director of a nonprofit school and learning center. Now I want to use that experience to help you succeed.

I majored in science as an undergrad, and always loved science and math. I enjoy helping students realize that, with the right approach, they can (at least) 'get through' finite math, calculus, or physics even if it's the last class they will take in that area. I'll share hints and tips so your work - whether it's doing a math example, editing a research paper, or getting ready to take the Praxis, TEAS, Hesi, ACT, ASVAB or other test - makes sense to you.

My doctorate in education focused on how people can learn best using books, materials, and 'stuff' (I ran the education departments at zoos and museums). I have an extensive background helping students with dyslexia and other learning challenges realize their potential. I've been told that my patience and a sense of humor make learning more fun too!

Need a math tutor? I can help students see the patterns in Finite Math, Algebra, Precalc, and Calculus that make it easier to complete an assignment or take a test. The steps that we go through make sense. You can learn this stuff even if you have not taken a math class in years!

Science was always one of my favorite subjects -- As a kid, I was always taking things apart or looking at something under the microscope. Too many students get stuck in all the vocabulary and miss how topics connect. That's a lousy way to learn, I can help you work through problems so they make sense on your homework or when it's time for the next exam!

Don't struggle -- please contact me to see how I can work with you to get the most out of your classes or get a better score on that important entrance or exit exam!

Many students who dislike math have often not been taught in a way that makes sense to them. For over 20 years I have enjoyed helping students successfully learn math with my practical and visual approach. My professional experience includes high school and college teaching, and directing a Learning Center for nearly 14 years.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Being successful on the SAT requires a mix of test-taking strategies and practice with the content. But you really especially need to be able to decide how to approach each problem the best way. Along with teaching college, I have over 20 years of experience working with high school and college students at a learning center to develop math, reading, and writing skills. I am patient and work with my students to build on each person's strengths, while developing problem solving skills.

Finite Math

I have successfully tutored Finite Math for students at IU and Ivy Tech for the past 7 years. There are several variations of the course, with most including set theory, probability, basic statistics, Markov transformations, matrices, and graphing core economic concepts. I have developed materials to teach each of these components.

Test Preparation

Accuplacer,

Accuplacer

During my 14 years as an independent School Director, I helped to prepare our high school seniors and recent graduates students for Accuplacer Testing. There are several different versions of the Accuplacer. Along with overall test preparation, I have used my graduate degree in math to specialize in teaching and tutoring the more challenging arithmetic, quantitative reasoning skills, algebra, and statistics content that can be asked during the math portions.

The TEAS is an important test that requires candidates to demonstrate their proficiency in a range of disciplines, including several sciences, math, and language skills. I have a Doctorate from Indiana University with 7 years of experience as a college instructor and 14 as the Director of a tutoring Center. I have helped hundreds of premed and allied health undergraduate and graduate students study successfully for the TEAS and similar tests. I have a degree in chemistry, extensive physics coursework, and graduate minors in math, statistics, and in biology/physiology. This helps me demonstrate relevant connections. I teach for understanding and content connections, not just memorization.

Patient and flexible tutor for every learner.

Denise is an excellent tutor who I would recommend to any and everyone. In the beginning she makes sure to get a sense of the areas and topics that you will need help with so that she can further prepare herself for future sessions. She has an ability to breakdown any probably and examine from a variety of angles that helps with multiple learning styles. She is extremely patient and flexible to you. It was with the help of Denise that I was finally able to pass the math core praxis on my fifth try. Looking for good outcome from each of your sessions? Then go with Denise!
