Hello! I am currently studying for my MSEd in International and Comparative Education after graduating with a BA in Music (with a Minor in Education). This summer I am working as an intern with Public Schools; thus, I am searching for a fulfilling part-time job that will allow me to continue my passion for teaching and interacting with students.
I have been teaching music informally since I was eleven years old and formally beginning in high school. During my junior and senior year of high school, I began to gain experience in academic tutoring as a Teacher's Assistant at a Math and Reading Center. I continued my passion for teaching and tutoring by getting involved in several tutoring organizations in college, and building my own private piano studio (age 4-adult). My studio averaged around eight to ten students weekly while I was a student and grew to sixteen students when I committed to teaching full time during the year after I graduated. I have been a residential counselor at several arts academies. My substantial participation in child-centered and culturally conscious environments along with my undergraduate and graduate studies have shown me that all children are innately unique, curious, capable, and emotional beings.
I received a 35 on my ACT Math Section, 780 on my SAT Math, and received a 5 on the AP Calculus test. I received a 36 on my ACT Science Section, 750 on SAT Chemistry Subject Test, 720 on SAT Ecological Biology Subject Test, 690 on SAT Molecular Biology Subject Test, and received A's in all science subjects through high school (including AP Biology - score: 5; AP Chemistry - score 4) except a B+ in AP Physics (score 4).
I am available this summer (now until mid-August) in the DC area every night after 5PM and on weekends if needed. I have my own car and am willing to drive to wherever is most convenient for you. I hope to get a chance to help serve your academic/extracurricular needs! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring children within this age group. The large majority of my piano students are K-6, the children I taught last summer with Camp Galileo were grades 1-2, and several children I have tutored privately and with tutoring organizations were K-6. Additionally, I am very confident in my content and pedagogic knowledge for K-6 academic subjects as I have always been on the "gifted" track in primary and secondary school, graduated in 2013 from Stanford University with my BA in Music and Education, and am currently pursuing my Masters in International and Comparative Education.
I have been studying piano since the age of five and music theory since the age of seven; since then, I have taken 18 years of private piano lessons with renowned university faculty from the University of Michigan, the Music Institute of Chicago, and Stanford University, and have studied seasonally with many more professors from around the world during various summer music programs. I received my BA from Stanford University in Music (Classical Piano Performance Concentration) with a Minor in Education; my coursework included many Music Performance, Music Theory and Music History classes. I have been teaching piano from age 11 until now - last year, my private piano studio grew to sixteen students (ranging from age 4 to adult, all skill levels) while I was teaching full time in the Bay Area, California.
