Dear students,

Dear students,

I believe that anyone can learn anything, with the right guidance. I've taught hundreds of people, from middle schoolers to adult learners. Whatever you're working on, we will tackle it together!

A little information about me: I have a BA in math, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College, and a PhD in math from Northwestern University.

I've always been a teacher at heart. In high school, I was a volunteer math tutor. For most of college, I worked as a math tutor and study group leader. During my 6 years as a grad student, I served as a TA; one year, I was named the best TA in my department. As a postdoc for 3 years, I had the pleasure of teaching my own math courses. Once again, I was named the best postdoctoral teacher in the whole Northwestern Math Department.

Courses Taught:
- Calculus (all levels)
- Linear algebra
- Foundations of Higher Math (an intro to logic, sets, and writing proofs)

Courses Tutored:
- Pre-algebra and algebra (all levels)
- Geometry
- Precalculus
- Calculus (all levels)
- Statistics
- Differential equations
- Linear algebra
- Number theory
- Real analysis

Given my advanced graduate coursework and research experience, I'd also be comfortable teaching most other college math classes, from finite math to topology or abstract algebra. Finally, I'd like to help you prepare for tests, such as SAT math, ACT math, or AP Calculus. I have personal experience studying for these tests and doing well -- I got 1600 on the SAT, and scored 5 on all my AP exams -- so I know what they take.

I will try my best to accommodate your needs, and match my teaching to your learning style. In general, I think getting good at math requires lots of practice, like sports or music. So, we'll work through lots of practice problems together. I'll also illustrate concepts with pictures and vivid examples. And if you have math or testing anxiety, I will try to help you work through that.

I want you to feel the sense of empowerment that comes when you realize, "Hey, I can do

Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is one of my favorite math subjects, and it’s the one I have the most experience tutoring. Ever since I started college, almost 20 years ago, calculus tutoring has been one of my main jobs. I’ve also taught calculus courses in a university setting - everything from calc 1 to surface integrals and Stokes’ theorem. My teaching evaluations have always been excellent, with many students telling me I’m the best math teacher they ever had. Given my PhD in math, I’m definitely an expert in the subject matter, but I’m also good at bringing it down to earth. I have a knack for explaining the ideas clearly, simply, and with helpful pictures that can make things a lot less intimidating. Let me be your guide to this challenging but fascinating subject!

Finite Math,

Finite Math

As a math Ph.D., I am extremely comfortable with the topics in a finite math course - linear equations, matrices, linear programming, and elementary probability and counting problems. In my many years of tutoring and classroom teaching, I’ve taught most of these topics multiple times. I’m also more than capable of helping you with financial math: compound interest, annuities, and amortization. Let me make these ideas clear and simple for you!
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is one of those subjects that can open doors for you. It shows up literally all over the place in pure and applied math. Learning it is like being given a master key. I can help you get there. As a math PhD, I’m extremely proficient in linear algebra. I’m also a skilled, caring teacher, with both tutoring and classroom teaching experience in linear algebra. I have a knack for explaining the ideas clearly and simply, and, where possible, illustrating with pictures. Let me be your guide to this interesting, important subject!
Logic,

Logic

As a math Ph.D., I’m extremely skilled at reading and writing proofs, which are rigorous logical arguments. Logic is the lifeblood of math. I have also, several times, taught a course at Northwestern called Foundations of Higher Mathematics (Math 300), which is an introduction to logic, set theory, and proofs. I have helped dozens of students through these challenging, rewarding ideas, and I can do the same for you!

Best Tutor

I suck at math and although I’m in a smart college the professors don’t teach a way I can learn. Kiran is the best tutor I’ve ever had I am able to do problems by myself right after.

Very good tutor

He taught me proofs and logic very well and slowly so I could understand and catch on well. I was really struggling. Thank you so much Kiran, I really appreciate it😊
