Marian University (EdD)
I have an EdD from Marian University. After student teaching in a special education classroom as well as a kindergarten classroom, I graduated with a dual bachelor's degree in elementary education and special education. After graduation, I was hired as an instructional assistant for a Community School Corporation.
I have experience working with students with various disabilities as well as students that struggle with various skills in math and reading/language arts. Each day I strive to build positive relationships with students and get to know them in order to help them become lifelong learners and reach their full potential. In order to help the students I work with succeed, I use differentiated instruction to match the child's learning style, engage students throughout all activities to make learning fun, and using a variety of strategies and tools.
Tutoring elementary students has always been a strong suit of mine because of my experience with small group and one on one instruction. This instruction includes math (grades K-4), vocabulary, phonics, phonemic awareness, writing, comprehension, spelling, and reading fluency. My experiences building up to this point in my life have made me realize my passion and love for children and learning. I have an EdD from Marian University. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
