an after school program, which I had k-6th graders whom I supervised, helped with homework and kept them in activities. Debra started tutoring my 13 year old son a couple months ago when his first report card came out and there were 3 f's. One in math, science, and reading. We had just moved to a new school system specifically because it was better and did not want to start off his new year in a new place on the wrong foot academically. So I Googled tutors in our area not really knowing what to expect because this is our first experience with it. But thankfully I was pointed in the direction of wyzant and was so impressed with everything they have to offer! What a novel idea for an industry that really needs the ability to connect people who need help with people who can help! I was so excited to start the process. Once a week for an hour Debra comes and works with him on math and he got his next report card this past week and it went from the previous score of an f to a c! I was so happy! Debra is so professional in her work and effectiveness she really takes it seriously and delivers what is needed. She is always on time, keeps her appointments, and works well with my son which I truly appreciate.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My 2 children are ADHD. I noticed my children had trouble staying on tasks, understanding homework, and keeping occupied without being bored easily. I found giving small tasks at a time helps them to succeed in their school work. I also helped other children who had small amounts of attention.
I have had clients in a manor home as well as home health setting with autism. We were taught specific ways of handling a child or adult with autism, by stipulating different activities to keep them busy. These activities were based on counting, some comprehension and other activities to keep clients occupied. I enjoy working with clients who have disabilities. I believe it's rewarding to see their progress, smiles and accomplishments.
I have earned enough credits in college to subsitute as a teacher in the school district. I worked for an afterschool program which I helped students with homework and also subsituted for the 3rd grade. I plan to return to school for more education. I am also pursuing to take a competency test to be certified as a teacher.
I have worked with patients with MRDD for 7 years. Some had autism, down syndrome and many other diagnoses, but an IQ below 70 was considered MRDD. I also have privately taken care of young children with autism and learning disabilities. My work began in Sept. 1993 to present.
While I attended college I learned to use time wisely. I worked full time and had 2 children to take care of. My professors told me to better comprehend my studies, it would benefit to reread lessons, make index cards, highlight important information and also record my lectures. One of my professors said we all have different ways of learning. I was a written, verbal and picture type person. My professor was a verbal and written and picture type person like me. I realized I was doing better on my tests and comprehension. I believe this is why students will benefit from my tutoring.
